I was thinking the same thing Bluebelle

I had a quick look at Changing Rooms last night and thought he looked like a sausage about to explode in his too-small waistcoat. You'd think a man who prides himself on his dress sense would get something that actually fits.
(I am now totally guilty of double-standards. I would not comment on a woman's appearance!)

Charlie got a lot of attention years ago when she was messy but credible, the media very often feature celebrities with eccentric styles.
Now to be blunt she is just a mess, would I go on screen looking like that, not in a million years.

Women attacking other women for their appearance is never a good look. Your comment speaks volumes about you ?

Charlie Dimmock had a breakdown after the death of her parents and withdrew from her TV career. By the time she regained her confidence and was ready to return there were other presenters winning the popularity stakes so her work dried up.

I was pleased to see her team up with the Rich brothers but she really does need to do something about her appearance because viewers are fickle and if ratings slump she will get the blame and be dropped.

I don't often comment, but feel I want to do so for this thread. For me personally, I cannot watch Charlie! I appreciate she has been through trauma. I also appreciate she has a skill. However, when you are being paid for being a presenter, or presenting, surely you should take a bit better care of your appearance, ie tie hair back! Nope, I have tried to watch her programme, but I find myself doing a crossword when she is on! I love the Rich brothers though!

I am a big fan of Garden Rescue and love it when it’s her turn to design the garden
I don’t know how she keeps going with her health problems !

I've always been drawn to her as she is just as most might be no pretence.
After losing her loved ones so tragically she did age and the sadness was obvious.
I have utmost respect for her.
Knowledgeable and a hard worker.

I watch Charlie a lot on Garden Rescue. I think her face and hair look much the same as when she was on Ground Force but she is about twice the size as back then and I sometime marvel at how fit she still is for both her age and size. One thing that always niggles me is how she keeps throwing back her hair with her soil covered hands, why won’t she just tie it back. I don’t think she tries to be sexy these days and when she was younger I think it was more the media commenting and getting her to pose nearly nude for articles. I remember the one covered in rose petals too.
I didn’t know she’d lost her parents in the 2004 tsunami. I remember Richard Attenborough lost members of his family in that disaster.
Sad for both of them.

It really is clutching at straws with some of the media when they have to stoop so low as to comment on a female presenters appearance rather than focus on talent. She is a very experienced gardener as is Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don, neither man is young but people idolise them. Dame Mary Beard is an authority on Roman history and excellent interviewer and presenter and people still comment on her appearance, some of the commentators are vastly inferior academically, so maybe this is all about people who feel somewhat inferior to Charlie Dimmock and other like her.

She's a gardener and a very good one. not a model.

Charlie is a great gardener and as engaging as ever.

In my opinion, if you don’t like the way a person looks/behaves/talks on TV the best way is to switch off.

I absolutely agree. I lived in Bulgaria for 5 years. The women there bitched all the time about other women.
I like to think it was a throwback to the communist days where they couldn’t complain about the government ( or anything) so they found something/ somebody else to bitch about.

When we usually see her she has a spade in her hand digging up a garden so what do some people expect her to look like. I'm a right mess after an half an hour in the garden. A male friend of mine asked why I don't usually where nail polish as it makes a woman look more feminine, I was fuming and boy did he know it. In his eyes you need make up etc to look like a woman, I never heard so much rubbish.
Charlie Dimmock is happy digging in the garden, in her jeans with her hair flying everywhere. She doesn't stand in front of a mirror all day preening herself, she'd rather prune her roses. Good on her doing what she loves.

I can’t watch Charlie Dimmock, but it’s nothing to do with her looks. It’s her voice I can’t stand.

I think it’s her own garden centre, it’s the teeth that match her hair colour that I find a little yuk?

I never thought she was that attractive anyway and if not wearing a bra is all it takes to be sexy then what a sad world we live in. I do agree that women like men should be praised for their talent but when is that going to happen if there are women who sell themselves on their sexiness .

It's nothing new is it? People (especially women) in the media spotlight are always judged by their looks. It's just a sad reflection of our image obsessed society.

I have always admired Charlie Dimmock for the talent she has. It was terrible when her parents were killed in Thailand she came back from that strong as ever.
People who make personal remarks about anyone should take a good look in the mirror.

Gwyneth, Dianne Abbot receives appalling abuse online, it's well documented, sadly she is treated differently.

I just think Charlie always seems like a really nice person, and good at gardening. I do think it's a pity that such emphasis is placed on the way she looks.

I haven’t seen any comments re Diane Abbott’s appearance gagajo. However, as many women in the public eye unfairly have their dress sense/appearance scrutinised constantly why should Abbott be treated any differently?

Good for you Meryl. I fear my nails aren’t wonderful with the gardening but they are scrubbed, and my hair is clean and brushed too.

But that's fine for you and of no business of mine but for me I would rather stick pins in my eyes than have my nails done three times a week. Perhaps she is the same.
