As it is shrove Tuesday tomorrow, you are all welcome round to my house for some pancakes, but what shall we have for the toppings ?
I like the good old lemon and sugar but I'm up for any ideas, oh and some extra eggs would be a help grin
Bear in mind I am also packing (moving soon I hope) so any extra pans would also be welcome grin

I usually weigh myself on a Wednesday morning, but somehow it must have slipped my mind today.............

PS I have a colleague who weighs daily, obsessive in my opinion.

I wasn't far out. If they had been French style there would have been more!

Anne58 Wed 22-Feb-12 18:56:22

well I made the batter as previously described (half pint of milk, 4oz flour, 2 large eggs). Then, after we had had our supper (in my defence, a rather frugal one of homemade veg soup, with one of those part baked baguettes, fresh from the oven) Mr Phoenix stationed himself at the hob, and I stationed myself at the table.

He cooked, I ate. At times the synchronicity was lost, in that I was sitting there with my plate empty, cutlery at the ready, but there was a slight lag in service delivery. (He does his best, dear chap)

He reckons (and he has just estimated that the addition of 4 oz of flour & 2 large eggs to half a pint of milk would equal approx 14 fl. oz of batter, which he then checked against the capacity of the ladle used, well, he is an engineer, so is entitled and happy to indulge in such pastimes) would have resulted in between 8 and 10 pancakes.

Of which I ate a total of....................

All of them blush

I am a very naughty, greedy Phoenix.

jeni Wed 22-Feb-12 18:44:52

Why?

Anne58 Wed 22-Feb-12 18:41:17

Oh heavens!

jeni Wed 22-Feb-12 17:58:27

12?

Anne58 Wed 22-Feb-12 17:54:20

Yes, but how many pancakes do you think it made?

PS I lost a stone and a half with Slimmingworld about 18 months ago, have "only" put back about half a stone. hmm

jeni Wed 22-Feb-12 17:47:54

Wish I was. I have put the 1/2lb back I lost and another 1lb as well! I am sticking rigorously to the pro points. It is NOT working!

Anne58 Wed 22-Feb-12 17:39:29

On the thinner side, jeni apart from the last one.

jeni Tue 21-Feb-12 20:49:20

How thick?

Anne58 Tue 21-Feb-12 20:40:59

The pan was about 7.1/2" diameter at the bottom, if that helps!

jeni Tue 21-Feb-12 20:37:34

Depends on how big you make them! How long is a piece of stringgrin

Anne58 Tue 21-Feb-12 20:20:57

Please can someone tell me how many pancakes you should get from 4oz flour, 2 large eggs and 1/2 pint of liquid. (I did 7fl oz milk, 3 fl oz water)

Thank you very much!

Annika Tue 21-Feb-12 19:23:51

made the pancakes DH had 4 DS had 3 and I had 1 and who cooked them , bet you can't guess...... yes thats right me hmm

Anne58 Tue 21-Feb-12 19:07:19

Totally traditional for me, i.e. lemon juice and sugar. We are only having home made soup and those part-baked baguettes for supper, so I think I can get away with ooodles of pancakes!

Problem is, I can eat them almost (if not faster) than Mr Phoenix can make them!

Sook Tue 21-Feb-12 16:17:34

We usually have ours with lemon and sugar or syrup. Tonight our family are joining us so it's a choice of bacon with Brie or Stilton for savoury. Bananas and ice cream with Nutella chocolate spread or fudge sauce with toasted nuts or homemade lemon curd with crushed meringue for those with a sweet tooth.

Does anybody remember the rhyme

Pancake Tuesday a very merry day!

If you don't give us a holiday we'll all run away!

Annika Tue 21-Feb-12 11:10:09

Off to make the batter for the pancakes how much should I make I wonder ? Am I right in thinking that it is ok to freeze any left over pancakes, bearing in mind that I am trying to "run" down the freezer so as I don't have too much in there when I come to move ( if ever, and thats another story) , so if you I eat too much you I must go for a run tomorrow .
But we I could also cheat by giving up chocolate for Lent, that way you I could eat as many as you I like. grin

digikidnan Tue 21-Feb-12 09:33:37

Thanks for the pancakes reminder! 2 grandchildren here for a sleepover , awake full of beans since 6am. A trip to the shops for ingredients just the job!

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 09:25:15

Actually, I think I'll make savoury crêpes for supper, filled with ham and mushroom and baked in a cheese sauce.

grannyactivist Tue 21-Feb-12 09:20:43

Sugar and lemon for me, but in Exeter there's a lovely man who has a crepe stall and I (very occasionally) succumb to the temptation of banana, (real) maple syrup and chopped nuts. Yummy.

susiecb Tue 21-Feb-12 08:59:55

Lemin and sugar for me please DH wants black cherries and ice cream - feel free to ignore him he's always been awkward.

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 08:50:35

I think I might try ice cream and home-made grape jelly.

kittylester Tue 21-Feb-12 08:46:34

My nearly son in law like Nutella with JAM! How would you find that out? confused

To drink, champagne, I thinkgrin

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 08:43:47

Depends how many you eat jeni – but they say a little of what you fancy does you good, so a little won't hurt, surely?

jeni Tue 21-Feb-12 08:41:58

Yes please! Sound gorgeous. Are you sure they're non fattening though?
