As it is shrove Tuesday tomorrow, you are all welcome round to my house for some pancakes, but what shall we have for the toppings ?
I like the good old lemon and sugar but I'm up for any ideas, oh and some extra eggs would be a help grin
Bear in mind I am also packing (moving soon I hope) so any extra pans would also be welcome grin

Are they fattening?

kittylester Mon 20-Feb-12 19:57:19

Do you do gluten free? If so, lemon and caster sugar is fine by me. I can bring pans - I have a draw full from the days when the 'boys' used to see if they could eat more than the other one. I think younger son's record was 18!! Needless to say, I didn't fancy pancakes after that! So, if you are cooking Annika, I'm there! grin

Jacey Mon 20-Feb-12 20:28:30

Thanx Annika ...I'll bring some bacon and mayple syrup ...and a pansmile

jeni Mon 20-Feb-12 20:30:06

How American! Sugar and lemon please.

Jacey Mon 20-Feb-12 20:32:26

Canadian!! grin

Apologies. But if you will be black rather than blue!

Dare I suggest melted chocolate for the pancake topping?

grannyactivist Mon 20-Feb-12 21:20:15

My lovely houseguest has just made two containers full of pancakes topped with sugar & cinnamon and fresh lemon juice for my husband to take to work tomorrow. Right now she's in the kitchen baking 'rusks' which are apparently very popular in her native South Africa. What a great friend.

I don't mind cooking, but perhaps we could have more than one cooking pancakes over the years I have learnt that my lot could eat them faster than I could cook em !
Now what about drinks... what on earth do we serve with pancakes a sparkling wine perhaps ?hmm

Very traditional lemon and sugar for me please, but demerara sugar so that it's nice and crunchy. I've just had a Nigella "Shrove Tuesday email" saying that her children like theirs with Nutella.....

glammanana Mon 20-Feb-12 23:00:14

I love traditional lemon and sugar, but for a special treat I will bring some nice cherries and and some cherry sauce. I also like banana and mayple syrup

Good morning all. Pancakes for breakfast? No 1/2a grapefruit.
Off to work soon. Will drop in later if I have a break.

Blueberries and crème fraîche, anyone?

jeni Tue 21-Feb-12 08:41:58

Yes please! Sound gorgeous. Are you sure they're non fattening though?

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 08:43:47

Depends how many you eat jeni – but they say a little of what you fancy does you good, so a little won't hurt, surely?

kittylester Tue 21-Feb-12 08:46:34

My nearly son in law like Nutella with JAM! How would you find that out? confused

To drink, champagne, I thinkgrin

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 08:50:35

I think I might try ice cream and home-made grape jelly.

susiecb Tue 21-Feb-12 08:59:55

Lemin and sugar for me please DH wants black cherries and ice cream - feel free to ignore him he's always been awkward.

grannyactivist Tue 21-Feb-12 09:20:43

Sugar and lemon for me, but in Exeter there's a lovely man who has a crepe stall and I (very occasionally) succumb to the temptation of banana, (real) maple syrup and chopped nuts. Yummy.

absentgrana Tue 21-Feb-12 09:25:15

Actually, I think I'll make savoury crêpes for supper, filled with ham and mushroom and baked in a cheese sauce.

digikidnan Tue 21-Feb-12 09:33:37

Thanks for the pancakes reminder! 2 grandchildren here for a sleepover , awake full of beans since 6am. A trip to the shops for ingredients just the job!

Annika Tue 21-Feb-12 11:10:09

Off to make the batter for the pancakes how much should I make I wonder ? Am I right in thinking that it is ok to freeze any left over pancakes, bearing in mind that I am trying to "run" down the freezer so as I don't have too much in there when I come to move ( if ever, and thats another story) , so if you I eat too much you I must go for a run tomorrow .
But we I could also cheat by giving up chocolate for Lent, that way you I could eat as many as you I like. grin

Sook Tue 21-Feb-12 16:17:34

We usually have ours with lemon and sugar or syrup. Tonight our family are joining us so it's a choice of bacon with Brie or Stilton for savoury. Bananas and ice cream with Nutella chocolate spread or fudge sauce with toasted nuts or homemade lemon curd with crushed meringue for those with a sweet tooth.

Does anybody remember the rhyme

Pancake Tuesday a very merry day!

If you don't give us a holiday we'll all run away!

Anne58 Tue 21-Feb-12 19:07:19

Totally traditional for me, i.e. lemon juice and sugar. We are only having home made soup and those part-baked baguettes for supper, so I think I can get away with ooodles of pancakes!

Problem is, I can eat them almost (if not faster) than Mr Phoenix can make them!
