Why does it take 30 minutes to soften!

Sorry, you will HAVE lovely rice.
Oh, dear.

I have a microwave rice steamer (Lakeland, long ago) which does it to perfection in 11 minutes.

Anno -you were obviously very lucky to survive my cooking for a week! grin

annodomini Tue 09-Oct-12 23:20:28

Nothing wrong with your cooking, Greatnan.

Ariadne Wed 10-Oct-12 05:45:29

johanna that's what I do, only with the easy cook rice, as you don't have to rinse it. Brilliant.

Still pondering on the problem that greatnan has with cooking rice...!! I wonder if you boil it in enough water, it does absorb such a lot and that may be the reason that it stays hard?

Ana Wed 10-Oct-12 13:42:09

Perhaps boiling temperature is lower in Switzerland! confused

Greatnan Wed 10-Oct-12 13:46:09

I kept adding boiling water from the kettle. I am quite good at following the instructions on packets!

yogagran Wed 10-Oct-12 13:49:55

I think Ana has the answer grin

The boiling point of water decreases by 1 degree Celsius for every 1000 metres in altitude - think that's right anyway. Tea was never quite right when I lived at 7000 feet in East Africa.

annodomini Wed 10-Oct-12 13:56:11

I might have got that wrong. Might be 1000 feet?

Greatnan Wed 10-Oct-12 14:20:27

Could be right, but this house is only at about 900 metres. Tea tastes fine - must do, I am having about ten cups a day.

Greatnan Thu 11-Oct-12 13:29:10

Bog off, you drunken lot. It is strictly personal invitation only at my place. I can't have people hurling bottles into the ground-floor gardens.
