Well - I don't know about your blood and your heart, but I hate them and hate what they do to me - no-one would want to be near me after eating them! But everyone will be eating them this Xmas - I am taking a clothes peg!

I love sprouts, especially the baby frozen ones, so easy all year round, yum!

Gosh, did you need an excuse not to eat something you dislike so much Hunt? hmm

Hate sprouts- on warfarin- best christmas present ever.Wey-hey no sprouts thank you ,I'm on warfarin!

Thanks, Bez, I'm safe then. Not that I take warfarin.

Does anyone else like putting grated cheese on cooked sprouts and letting it melt in the oven before serving them? S'nice. I recommend it.

I have found it difficult to find out exact amounts - if you are meaning because of the warfarin as far as I know it needs to be sort of regular amount so the body gets used to it and presumable it shows in the INR tests in that they remain stable. The nurse just said to me that DH needed smaller amounts often rather than a larger portion infrequently.
We mostly have salad type things for one meal and a more old fashioned meat and veg at the other. Deviating from this a couple of times seems to be OK too. We tend to have one glass of wine most days and rarely more than two as alcohol can upset things too.

My husband's favourite veg. Definitely on the menu. I faff around a bit when cooking them ........ delicious. smile

What IS too much in the way of green leafy vegetables, by the way? One helping a day? More than that? Less than that?

Bez Sat 22-Dec-12 08:53:00

DH takes warfarin and I did not know about sprouts - a nurse did warn me that he should not eat too much broccoli at once because of the effect of negating the warfarin - it is a bit of a nightmare till you get used to it - DH is to and fro the hospital at the moment as he had to come off the warfarin for a couple of days when recently undergoing surgery ( put on a heparin drip) and at the moment he is not totally stable. We have moved so a new surgery and they will not look after him with regard to this till he has three reading within spec.

Thank you for this link - I shall watch his intake!!

P.S. I now always stir fry my sprouts and add a few bits - no lingering pong afterwards and those who profess to hate sprouts eat them and without realising and enjoy them.smile

I read the headline and thought - did he explode? Did he make the mistake of lighting a ciggie in the loo and combust? Truth less dramatic. A seasonal medical story. hmm

Oh no! They are DH's favourite vegetable grin
