Keeping cold turkey in the fridge

I cooked a turkey crown very thoroughly on Christmas Eve and put it in my DD's fridge. This was in case their turkey did not provide enough leftovers for Boxing Day meal. In the event we did not need it; so I brought it home yesterday (only short journey) and carved it, putting some in our fridge to be eaten today and the rest into the freezer in separate helpings for use later.

The crown was totally wrapped in 3 layers of foil the whole time so could not become contaminated.

Anyone got any thoughts about this? - I am not particularly worried about it and plan to have it for lunch today - fingers crossed?

I think it is time for this: gringrin
On the first day of Christmas my true love said to me:
I`ve bought a big, fresh turkey and a proper Christmas tree.

On the second day of Christmas much laughter could be heard
as we tucked into our turkey- a most delicious bird.

On the third day of Christmas came the people from next door.
The turkey tasted just as good as it had done before.

On the fourth day of Christmas came relations, young and old.
We finished up the Christmas pud and had the turkey cold.

On the fifth day of Christmas, outside the snowflakes scurried
But we were nice warm inside – we had the turkey curried.

On the sixth day of Christmas, the Christmas spirit died
As the children fought and bickered – we had turkey rissoles fried.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love he did wince
When he sat down at the table and was offered turkey mince.

On the eighth day of Christmas the dog had run for shelter
He`d seen our turkey pancakes and the glass of Alka Seltzer.

On the ninth day of Christmas by lunchtime Dad was blotto
He knew that bird was back again, this time as a risotto.

On the tenth day of Christmas we were drinking home-made brew
As if that wasn`t bad enough, we were eating turkey stew.

On the eleventh day of Christmas the Christmas tree was moulting.
With chilli, soy and oyster sauce the turkey was revolting.

On the twelfth day of Christmas we had smiles upon our lips.
The guests had gone, the turkey too – we dined on fish chips.
grin

I know that cold turkey is the most efficient way of coming off, but why add to the misery by doing it in the fridge? confused

Deedaa Fri 28-Dec-12 21:08:36

Cooked the turkey on Christmas day, since then it's been sandwiches or cold, sliced with bubble & squeak. Had a break tonight and cooked the rest of the ham with pasta. Tomorrow it'll probably be curry.

When I was a child my mother always made the turkey last a week. No refrigeration of course, it would just be covered with a bit of greaseproof and left in the larder (kitchen cupboard) but we all survived!

Noo - Saturday is curry! Not to mention turkey soup for lunches!

Mishap Fri 28-Dec-12 19:53:29

Stansgran - I love turkey I really would eat it all year if it was available.

I just tried to get a turkey crown to freeze from Tesco website - my search revealed dog food!

Christmas day turkey roasted, Boxing day turkey sandwich, Thursday cold cuts and pickles, Friday Turkey pie Saturday Turkey in the bin! I am all turkied out¬

Ana Fri 28-Dec-12 18:57:56

I must admit I have a three-day rule, so that if I'd cooked the turkey on Monday I would only eat the refrigerated remains until Thursday - then it's for the bin...

HappyNanna Fri 28-Dec-12 18:55:53

Had some of our left-over turkey in sandwiches at lunch. All perfectly ok. DH has made a turkey broth for tonight. That'll be the end of it for another year!

Stansgran Fri 28-Dec-12 18:52:33

Next year buy a goose-so delicious that there is hardly a scrap for leftovers and imho if turkey were that good we'd be eating it all year round

Anne58 Fri 28-Dec-12 16:33:58

Just about to turn the last of ours into a cheats turkey and ham pie!

crimson Fri 28-Dec-12 14:18:38
