Soup of the day!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but why oh why does every eatery not know the chosen soup of the day.
If I take my mother or sister-in-law out they always want soup for lunch.
When ordering ,the waiter/waitress/bar staff always have to go away to ask what it is!
It is always something disgusting like pea and mint which results in said ladies making childish yukky noises - very embarrassing!
In a cafe in Honiton the other day, a women in front of me -ordering at the counter- enquired as to what soup it was. The woman serving lifted the lid of the tureen ,swished about the ladel full of soup and STILL had to shout to Maureen or whatever her name was to find out what was in the container. Chunky Vegetable - cue yukky noises !!
What's the matter with everyone?

I thought I was the only one to get annoyed by this. Surely I can't be the first person to have asked!

I usually find the 'specials', including the soup, chalked up on a blackboard; in one of the pubs where I lunch with a friend, a waitress comes round with the menus and always tells us about the day's soup, fish and roast. So I guess I've just been lucky.

I suppose it starts out as e.g. vegetable, then they run a bit short so they lob a few cans of beans and tomatoes in and call it minestrone, then when that gets a bit thin, the whizz it up and call it tomato - that's catering!!!
Anyway my soup of the day is going to be Broccoli and Stilton!

I'd cook that if I had any broccoli. Oh well I've got leeks and potato.
That's if I get up and cook itconfused

I'm a bit overwhelmed by the fact I've just had a lottery win![grin[

It probably does depend on the "left overs." My soup of the day I am about to eat is Butternut squash and red pepper. Its made with the Butternut Squash DD gave me, saying it was older than my DGS which means its 3 month plus. The red pepper was a pre christmas buy. Wonderful soup it is too.

My kind of soup Nellie, I make fridge soup, anything vaguely veggie, including lettuce, it's usually tasty and nobody has keeled over yet hmm

Me, too jeni. £10 grin

So soup of the fridge rather than soup of the day ? smile

I make FRIDGE BOTTOM POTAGE every three days in the winter. (I say 'potage' because I'm a pretentious francophile smile. I add things on a whim - marmite/curry powder/ tomato ketchup/soy sauce/apples and pears. I like to think of myself as Mrs Cropley (or Mme Cropley) from The Vicar of Dibleygrin
