I made a big pancake last night using leftover Yorkshire pudding batter from Sunday. Filled it with blueberries, maple syrup and poured cream all round.
This lunch time MrA said 'You know we had pancakes last night?'
Me (reading gransnet on my phone): 'Hmm'
MrA: Does that mean we're not having them tonight?
Me: Well, I suppose we can if you like....
MrA: Can they have lemon and sugar on them?

So we will have the complete performance, made with semi-skimmed milk but cooked in lard and the same accompaniments that I have had for the last 60 years

Do you use buttermilk in the UK ? I use it in pancakes and some cakes.It makes them tender and fluffy. I don't drink it though yuk!

You can get buttermilk, Enviousamerican and people do use it in baking but it isn't widely available. My granny used to use sour milk in her scones but I don't think she used it in pancakes. American pancakes! Mmmm....

Yes, you can get buttermilk in supermarkets nowadays. I use full-fat milk and some melted butter in mine. Envious, I have fond memories of those lovely New England breakfasts, with pancakes, bacon and maple syrup.

I buy buttermilk in my local Sainsbury's and in Tesco and use it in baking, Lilygran

I wouldn't use it in pancakes Enviousamerican as the ones we make on Shrove Tuesday are to use up all the left overs of flour, milk eggs etc before Lent and are traditionally flat (as a pancake!!).

Oh yes! That's why the lady in front of me in M and S this morning was buying maple syrup. For her pancakes! Yes. Very American.

Wont be using any milk. We have the builders in and the kitchen ceiling down and you cannot cook pancakes in a microwave, toaster or electric kettle, all of which sit on a table in the corner of the living room.

Probably won't have any tonight, not quite the same as when Mr P is here.

He doesn't eat them himself, but makes them for me.

Don't usually bother but had DGS and DGD for a sleepover so I was over a barrel. They insisted that they ALWAYS had pancakes before their tea and as it was an unexpected visit and a bit of a treat we had a couple of tea plate sized ones and a couple more after tea. DH's grandmother's filling of butter, soft brown sugar and lemon went down a treat. But I tried DGS's Nuttella and lemon and that was yummy. I bought semi-skim milk but I'd try it again with our usual skim milk. The fillings are rich enough.

Just made myself a couple with sugar and lemon, and sat in solitary state to eat them - yummy. Very odd as the late Mr.G and I used not to bother very much about pancakes.

Made pancakes at DD's house however she doesn't possess a small frying pan so I used a wok. It made flipping them over so much easier, I may never use my usual pan again.

Yoyu could make some seriously big pancakes in one of those!
I always cook mine in a tiny knob of butter using delia's basic pancake recipe. My first one is rarely the best so Grace gets that and for the rest, we like lemon juice and caster sugar., I now make the whole batch, keeping them warm over a pan of simmering water as what used to happen was that I would be cooking while the others ate and as I finished each one, there would be an empty plate pushed in front of me and optimistic face.

I did mix up pancake batter after all as I thought it would be a treat for Mr absent as he has a sweet tooth and rarely gets pudding. However, owing to our having two entirely different points of view on an unrelated topic, his chicken went on the floor smashing the [brand new] plate, my chicken went in the bin and the batter went down the plug hole. Happy days!

Oh, absent, you should have made the pancakes - I bet he would have looked good wearing one!!

Gosh! and I thought it was just me Actually I had to throw my first lot of batter away because I had a rush of blood to the head and put in way too much (semi skimmed) milk. It cooked up very nasty! Lemon and Sugar last night, but my American SiL has got me into American style pancakes with Maple syrup and bacon. Yummy!
