I have a squash! What do I do with it?
What does it taste like?
Is it worth trying?

Cook it, mash it with coconut milk, stir in some walnuts. Eat with some nice meat. Venison is good.

Or bacon. Very few things aren't improved by an addition of bacon wink

This is a fantastic recipe Galen. I made it on Friday night for some friends and they were very impressed!
It sounds fiddly and you might not have all the ingredients, but it's worth getting them as you will want to make the recipe again and again!

However squash is also nice as an accompanying vegetable just roasted in olive oil with a bit of garlic and onions and salt and pepper.

What sort is it? Butternut squash is wonderful in a risotto.

Don't know. Long and yellow. Resemble an outsize dildo!

Wow! That Gurniad one sounds good! I actually have all the ingredients in. That is if I still have parsley in the garden!

iPad wanted to put Presley rather than parsley?hmm

That sounds like a large courgette, Galen grin

Galen Sun 06-Oct-13 19:25:13

Much biggergrin

Galen Sun 06-Oct-13 19:25:50

And courgettes aren't bulbous at distal end!

Bez Sun 06-Oct-13 19:35:42

Makes good soup with the addition of onions etc and also the addition of coconut milk is good - they keep a long time in their natural state too.
We are inundated with all sorts of shapes and sizes of what are termed 'courgettes' - some are huge marrows and we also have huge round ones - all of these the French seem to call courgettes. We have eaten our fill and I have put some in the freezer to try it - gather it is Ok in soups and casseroles - any further ideas ladies please?

That does sound like a butternut squash. The kind of shape you feel could be cut in half and have strings put across it to make music?
Is it rock-hard? (ask the bishop)

Elegran Sun 06-Oct-13 19:40:47

Actually, courgettes do get bulbous at the distal end if they get too old, but they are soft. #disappointedactress

Galen Sun 06-Oct-13 19:45:02

It's a butternut squash! Knowing my culinary skills, I'd probably do better to make it into a mandolin.
Elegran but I won't hold it against you!

Roast it with ginger, garlic, maple syrup and olive oil. Use any left over to make butternut squash soup (using sweated onions and veg/chicken stock) topped with a swirl of sour cream/creme fraiche and crispy bacon. I'm on my way!
