Evening all, I have long been a fan of Brains faggots for an easy option meal, always served with mashed potatoes, carrots and peas.

However a recent supper proved a bit short on potatoes, so we had faggots, oven chips, peas and gravy!

Oh my word! What is it about that combo that seems so naughty? Mind you, I've always felt a sort of "naughty" thrill about chips with gravy! Seems sort of "decadent" some how!

A bit like the combination of ice cream, honey and flaked almonds........

And I suppose I should confess to bacon and fried egg sandwiches, on thick sliced white bread with.............. Branston Pickle! (Note, only eat when alone, or with someone who loves you very much/has restricted vision)

I like this thread, there are other outrageous eaters out there!I haven't had chips with gravy for so many years [but why not, should work?]I will now try it in the interests of science. Also never had Brains faggots [never ask for this in the USA will you?] grin
my guilty eating pleasure is ....... a cod fish finger sarnie! They have to be fried, have ketchup on and served in white bread, mmmmmmmn.

That really thick hot chocolate that I've had in Italy a couple of times - it's just like melted chocolate - a million calories, but so what? I don't go to Italy very often!

You are all making me hungry!I love chips with gravy too, chips with cheese as well but not mayo.My gran used to love Brains Faggots and so did our dog at the time, she would steal them off the kitchen table while no-one was looking!
However,my guilty pleasure is a hot chocolate with a drop of Irish Whiskey in and a blob of cream on top.Naughty but comforting on a cold winters day!Does anyone else have a favourite "comfort drink?"

When we were kids it was turkey, baked beans, chips and bread and butter on boxing day. Yum. I preferred it to the Christmas Day lunch.

Anne58 Thu 14-Nov-13 17:29:16

We always have cold meat (turkey, gammon etc) and bubble and squeak on Boxing day!

I do like mushy peas with fish & chips, some good fish & chip shops who have a sit in, its nice.
Have had reasonable size portion of cod in a pub, along with mushy peas and chunky chips.
For a good plateful , pub wise can recommend the Reindeer in Parsons Street in Banbury £7.85p but its a filler , they also do a good filler meal called Reinedeer Special which is bubblle & Sqeak , and ham with baked beans and fried egg on top.
My favourite with fried eggs is maggi sauce, when I was in RAF in the mid seventys in Germany, on the Dutch border used to go to a cafe in the dutch town of roemond and have a strammer max , which was ham, bread ,and egg and used the maggui sauce in the egg yolk hence liking today.

I am gagging for Janthea's fry up. I know that I would have a massive acid reflux though.grin

Sook Thu 07-Nov-13 21:18:25

Flower mushy pea fritters, foodie heaven, but can't get them here any more.

newist Thu 07-Nov-13 21:18:15

I think when you sneak something for your self and do not share it, whatever it is it tastes delicious grin

Grannyknot Thu 07-Nov-13 21:14:00

Phoenix you may have to "fight for your faggots" www.bristolpost.co.uk/Fight-faggots-Bristol-s-Mr-Brain-s-launches/story-20038124-detail/story.html

Well I feel full up if that's what you mean. I'm glad I ate my meal before looking at this thread.

There must be something wrong with me, looking at all your guilty pleasures. Mine is to fry an onion, add a little white wine and to reduce it down, then add a whole bag of king prawns to it and eat it all by myself with a salad. Normally if my DH is around I have to share the prawns and bulk it up with bread. It's a delicious summer lunch.

Normally it's a sandwich or some couscous salad made in bulk on a Monday. Or poached egg on toast.

kittylester Thu 07-Nov-13 16:48:53

Anyone else starting to feel ever so slightly poorly?

Flowerofthewest Thu 07-Nov-13 16:42:10

Oh YES!!!! I'll have what she's having!!! Janthea mmmmmmmmmm

AND I meant WEST BAY Nr Bridport.

janthea Thu 07-Nov-13 15:11:56

Scrambled eggs, leftover potatoes fried in butter, crispy bacon and fried bread.

annodomini Thu 07-Nov-13 10:53:48

So now I will have to go shopping for some of these wicked ingredients. My favourite comfort food: macaroni cheese with extra cheese on top, well browned. Alternatively, Cauliflower cheese with crispy breadcrumb, cheese and sesame seed topping, also well browned.

Nelliemoser Thu 07-Nov-13 09:48:27

ASDA smart price mushy peas. Tasty, cheap, very nutritious and not dyed bright green. Comfort food.

Flowerofthewest Thu 07-Nov-13 09:27:40

Ohhh! Sook! mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! just love real mushy peas. The fish and chip van at East Bay in Dorset used to sell mushy pea fritters. Balls of mushy peas deep fried in batter.

Our late eccentric minister friend used to deep fry pork pies Yuk~!!!
