Today's meal was a bit of leftover stew, a bit of leftover tuna pasta, and a bit of leftover chilli.
Dessert was yoghurt, plus a leftover child's yoghurt plus a leftover child's fruit pot.

Actually is was all quite nice grin

That rings a bell smile
Except we had the leftover stew made into a pasty with a roll of bought pastry. Plus fresh cabbage. Then some fruit.
As well as not wanting to waste food, it saves cooking.

I have meals like this too!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 07-Jan-14 19:40:41

We just had a curry with what I thought was leftover turkey (from the freezer). Turned out to be pork but it still went in. Hope it's not too disrespectful, putting pork in curry. shock

Yes. We have got the raspberry children's yogs to finish up. His young lordship only eats the strawberry ones. hmm grin

That reminds me - better eat those Peppa Pig yoghurts before they go out of date!

Soutra Tue 07-Jan-14 19:48:01

We had (leftover) turkey pie followed by leftover Heston Blumenthal's chocolate caramel swirl with leftover cream. Is there any other sort of food?

Marelli Tue 07-Jan-14 19:59:34

I boiled some rice - and with it, DH is, at this moment, eating a left over curry which was in the freezer, while I had some left over frozen roast beef which I turned into a stir fry with a few veg and one of those saucy sachet things. smile

bikergran Tue 07-Jan-14 20:21:53

jingle my favourite curry is! pork and pineapple! smile

feetlebaum Tue 07-Jan-14 20:34:20

Jingle - the genuine vindaloo, from Goa, is usually made with pork - Goa is a largely Catholic island, so no hang-ups about friend pig.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 07-Jan-14 21:26:16

Well this one was made with a jar of Korma sauce from the Co-op. And I added a packet Waitrose spinach.

It was healthy! The rice was whole grain.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 07-Jan-14 21:28:24

Shame about the two thirds of a packet of leftover trifle sponge fingers I scoffed, once DH had gone out.

Turkey pie today and then we're down to only two lots of frozen turkey. I wonder if we've got any Peppa Pig yoghurts left. We definitely had some. hmm

POGS Wed 08-Jan-14 13:21:14

I get a distinct air of superiority when I mackle up something. grin

My freezer must is frozen paella. You can bung anything in it.

I just with I could stop throwing away coleslaw and beetroot. I always end up chucking some away and I keep on doing it, it really upsets my hubby. Perhaps that's why I do it.

Is it a generation thing do you think, my daughter is useless at using up food.

Smoked salmon pasta will need to be on our menu again - just wondering if enough time has elapsed since we last had itgrin !

FlicketyB Wed 08-Jan-14 14:13:23

Just discovered 2 bananas in the cool of the vegetable rack, also bought with children in mind. Felt them gingerly, skin may be browning but internals felt firm. I do not like bananas myself but DH does, but he is finicky and judges from the outside. Anyway, cross fingers, he agreed they felt OK and says he will eat them, probably with his daily yoghourt.

glammanana Wed 08-Jan-14 14:33:36

I do love banana's when they are brown and speckly I always look for them on the reduced section when going into any Supermarket they go down a treat so easy to digest.

annsixty Wed 08-Jan-14 14:37:43

Bez please give us a rough recipe for Smoked salmon pasta I love it when eating out but I have never made it.

newist Wed 08-Jan-14 15:45:38

annsixty a quick and easy recipe I often do is, a cheese sauce, not too strong, with some hot smoked salmon stirred in, if you have some fresh herbs, parsley or coriander, whatever your taste, just to make it look pretty. You can add whatever you have at hand, a couple of mushrooms or not.

Before Christmas someone suggested chicken joints with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and roasted. Whoever this was thank you so much. You are my BFF grin

Galen Wed 08-Jan-14 16:09:20

Try chicken joints braised with dry cider chicken stock, apple wedges and creme fraiche.

annodomini Wed 08-Jan-14 16:15:25

Aldi's hot smoked salmon is tasty and extremely good value.

granjura Wed 08-Jan-14 16:51:40

Rustling up a nice meal out of left-overs is great. Often a stir fry with some
barley, noodles or rice- or a fritatta type omelette with a bit of gruyère on top and grilled, with a salad. Or some pasta dish.

annsixty Wed 08-Jan-14 17:08:18

Thanks all for all these suggestions but I hope D. Cameron doesn't read GN or he will be cutting the Pension not increasing it. He will think we can all live like this all year round.

broomsticks Thu 09-Jan-14 16:23:25

The chicken in cider sounds good.
All we've got left now is one elderly bag of salad and some nasty looking spiced beetroot. I'm on strike as far as the beetroot goes.

Oh, and one helping each of sticky toffee pudding. Yes!!

MamaCaz Fri 10-Jan-14 14:45:29

I have started keeping some tortilla wraps in the freezer. Even a tiny amount of left-over stew or chilli con carne (or whatever I happen to have left over) becomes a simple, tasty and filling meal when wrapped in those.
