Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

You always make me smile Jings! This thread is like reading a posh menu. I feel a complete failure. We are having omelettes. No chips. sad

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:04:23

We've got a chicken breast joint that was intended for Sunday but we went to the pub instead. And yesterday the cafe at the garden centre called just a bit too loudly! grin

Mamie Tue 21-Oct-14 17:04:39

Not posh at all. Do you not remember Floyd cooking it and being sharply told off by the fierce French lady?
No chips though.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:05:23

The chicken joint is still inside the Use by - just. Phew!

I am having a few days in Spain next week. I intend to live on waffles, crepes and churros. (Google that last one - it looks so delicious!)

Galen Tue 21-Oct-14 17:26:15

'Ghetti with Tom sauce

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:30:52

You need to put a bit of bacon with that Galen. Or/and cheese in with the sauce. (Protein you know) [nods sagely]

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:32:05

Orland? Where did that come from?

Or/and

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:32:52

Oh no! It's my eyes! Scrub that!

Mamie Tue 21-Oct-14 17:40:55

According to my son you eat your churros dipped in hot chocolate. But it is essential that you stay up all night drinking first and then have them at daybreak.

Hi Jingle I`m off to Barcelona at the end of this week for a few days so will take on board churros never heard of it but will Google asap.

Tonight it was a ham salad when I say salad it wasn`t really traditional as I chopped tomatoes then added M&S Tex Mex selection plus chickpeas - I will understand if some of you go Uck but it was good. There were hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, black pepper and there you go. Should I blush

Have just Googled Jingle they sound delectable so will bear them in mind and if I wander into a street vendor selling them I just might kick over the traces and have a go.

kittylester Tue 21-Oct-14 17:58:57

Pork chops in a winey, creamy sauce with shallots and tarragon - possibly!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 18:09:06

I'm hoping they're going to be along the lines of this delicious stuff we had in Prague. It was so good. Yes, street vendor food. smile

When i have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, I always finely chop a red onion and place on the side . Not too much , just the right amount to give a little bite.

Little tip given to me by my youngest !!

Mind you I was reading in a magazine, that New York Jews always, when they have their bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese add just a soupcon of onion.

Still onion is a good additive to any dish really, as it enhances and brings out all the flavours

smile

Mamie oh yes! And they have them for breakfast. And they have hot chocolate with them as well. And magdalenas (sound lovely). All for brekker! (You can tell I've done my research) smile

Riverwalk Tue 21-Oct-14 19:04:33

jings churros are just elongated doughnuts!

Deep fried cakes, sprinkled with sugar, then dipped in hot chocolate shock

Very nice.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 19:17:54

Yeah! I can live on those for four days! smile

Riverwalk Tue 21-Oct-14 19:23:28

Well don't be complaining when you gain 4lbs.

Yer own fault!

Could be offset by wine, which is healthy smile

annodomini Tue 21-Oct-14 19:32:32

Churros! DiL and I had some really good ones two years ago at the Hyde Park Christmas funfair! Sadly, without the hot chocolate.

Last night's dinner included an experiment - I had loads of celery (I planned to make celery soup at one time and never got round to it)- anyway needed to use it up so I googled recipes with celery not expecting to find anything other than soup or Waldorf, but thank you Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall for your delicate and delicious recipe of Celery Gratin. It was very well received by the family when served with roast chicken, roast potatoes and glazed sweet carrots.

Tonight's dinner is bangers and mash ... smile Gonna taste divine because I'm not cooking it grin
