Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Just for a change I had a significant input into tonight's dinner. We had a pheasant casserole, I got the job of boning out the pheasants and removing shot.

Belly pork slow roasted on a bed of veg mixed with lots of garlic to which you add a WHOLE bottle of wine!! If I can still stand up afterwards, I'll report back!!

Cordon Bleu Roadkill for beginners.

How's that for a title?

Grannyknot Sun 09-Nov-14 19:56:34

It wasn't really roadkill though was it? shock then it would have to be "Pompa does Bear Grylls" smile

Toby Carvery turkey, beef, stuffing, roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, caulifower, onion, horseradish sauce, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, gravy for £5.99. Decided I couldn't be arsed cooking tonight.

Himself had smoked mackerel fillet with horseradish sauce and a salad.

#I had a chicken kiev with salad and chickpeas.

very nice too.

Throughly enjoyed

Pork chop, celeriac mash and cabbage - quite boring really. But I made an apple pie with custard and I have 2 helpings and now feeling totally stuffed and pig-gish

Over the course of our 3 hour drive yesterday we could have collected enough fresh roadkill to keep us in meat for a couple of weeks.
Probably a couple of dozen pheasants and rabbits, one deer and various other nondescript creatures. Not sure about the fox and badger, not seen them on the roadkill top 10 list. On a different journey we came across a pile of leeks that had dropped off a trailer - enough for a game stew.

sparkygran Tue 11-Nov-14 13:32:03

All this talk of roadkill has quite put me off my stuffed pork fillet!!!!

kittylester Tue 11-Nov-14 14:29:54

We are having braised sausage and mash tonight but I'm beginning to wonder what is in the sausages!

Can't come all the way to Leicester and not have an Indian. Daughter & partner are going out tonight while they have us to babysit, so a take away is on the cards.

Galen Tue 11-Nov-14 15:47:44

M&s count on us moussaka for onesad

NanKate Tue 11-Nov-14 16:44:52

Enjoy your moussaka Galen. You've got us GNs if you feel like a chat.

Galen Tue 11-Nov-14 17:17:30

I'd really really really love an Indian takeaway, but the really good Indian doesn't deliver and anyway the calories!shock

Iam64 Tue 11-Nov-14 18:32:50

Very lazy dinner here tonight, it's Ikea meatballs, mashed spuds, gravy and two veg.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 11-Nov-14 18:58:48

No iam64. A lazy dinner is the one we've just had. Two thin crust Waitrose pizzas - burnt - with frozen chips.

I've been busy!

Ana Tue 11-Nov-14 19:39:25

Now that does sound like a lazy dinner, jingl! Iam64's sounds quite hard work, unless the mash was out of a packet and the veg were frozen...

NanKate Tue 11-Nov-14 20:16:50

Galen have you tried the Spice tailor curries which were recommended to me by Kittylester

The coconut curry was fab and not too many calories with say chicken or even Turkey.

Galen Tue 11-Nov-14 20:40:24

I make exceedingly good curries when I bother. Completely from scratch, but it's just not worth the effort for one.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 11-Nov-14 23:15:05

The Spice Tailor curries are very nice, but they still involve some faffing. Why not just open a jar? Seeds of Change is excellent, and the ingredients are exactly the same as anyone at home would put in a curry.

kittylester Wed 12-Nov-14 07:20:27

Seriously, Galen try the Spice Tailor ones. They are really easy , use real spices but the sauces are done. It makes enough for two and takes about half an hour! I also make real curries but sometimes I can't be a***d and use them. So does my Indian friend!

Jamie Oliver's vindaloo recipe is good. It is more like the sauce that is served in South Goa: tasty rather than 'blow your head off'.

We had a risotto yesterday evening. I used turkey breast, garlic, onion, some left over wine and mushrooms and at the end added the last of our home grown baby tomatoes roasted in olive oil, a sprig of rosemary and balsamic vinegar. Oh and butter and parmesan of course.

Iam64 Wed 12-Nov-14 08:23:23

The mash was homemade (with mustard and wicked lurpack butter), the peas were frozen but I cooked them with leeks and bashed them, then carrots I'd copped n cooked. It was the meat balls Jing that made me feel it was lazy, plus the fact I was only cooking for two, rather than 4 or 6 as has often been the case recently.
Fingers crossed that youngest and her chap will be moving out within the month, their refurb cottage is almost done.
Tonight, we'll be 3, tomorrow 5 or 7. As I'm the only non working family member currently, I seem to be morphing into mum. This thread is good, it'll encourage me to remember I managed to avoid cooking every night until I retired, since when it's kind of crept up on me….
