Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Mamie oh yes! And they have them for breakfast. And they have hot chocolate with them as well. And magdalenas (sound lovely). All for brekker! (You can tell I've done my research) smile

Madrid for us this time.

When i have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, I always finely chop a red onion and place on the side . Not too much , just the right amount to give a little bite.

Little tip given to me by my youngest !!

Mind you I was reading in a magazine, that New York Jews always, when they have their bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese add just a soupcon of onion.

Still onion is a good additive to any dish really, as it enhances and brings out all the flavours

smile

I'm hoping they're going to be along the lines of this delicious stuff we had in Prague. It was so good. Yes, street vendor food. smile

Pork chops in a winey, creamy sauce with shallots and tarragon - possibly!

Have just Googled Jingle they sound delectable so will bear them in mind and if I wander into a street vendor selling them I just might kick over the traces and have a go.

Hi Jingle I`m off to Barcelona at the end of this week for a few days so will take on board churros never heard of it but will Google asap.

Tonight it was a ham salad when I say salad it wasn`t really traditional as I chopped tomatoes then added M&S Tex Mex selection plus chickpeas - I will understand if some of you go Uck but it was good. There were hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, black pepper and there you go. Should I blush

According to my son you eat your churros dipped in hot chocolate. But it is essential that you stay up all night drinking first and then have them at daybreak.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:32:52

Oh no! It's my eyes! Scrub that!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:32:05

Orland? Where did that come from?

Or/and

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:30:52

You need to put a bit of bacon with that Galen. Or/and cheese in with the sauce. (Protein you know) [nods sagely]

'Ghetti with Tom sauce

I am having a few days in Spain next week. I intend to live on waffles, crepes and churros. (Google that last one - it looks so delicious!)

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:05:23

The chicken joint is still inside the Use by - just. Phew!

Mamie Tue 21-Oct-14 17:04:39

Not posh at all. Do you not remember Floyd cooking it and being sharply told off by the fierce French lady?
No chips though.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 17:04:23

We've got a chicken breast joint that was intended for Sunday but we went to the pub instead. And yesterday the cafe at the garden centre called just a bit too loudly! grin

Gagagran Tue 21-Oct-14 17:01:01

You always make me smile Jings! This thread is like reading a posh menu. I feel a complete failure. We are having omelettes. No chips. sad

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Oct-14 16:54:57

So you're having ham and eggs Mamie. smile Chips with that?

wink

Mamie Tue 21-Oct-14 16:49:36

Piperade (peppers, tomatoes, garlic, herbs, eggs) on jamon de serrano.

jamsidedown Tue 21-Oct-14 12:07:49

Wow, grannyactivist, that sounds like quality food!

grannyactivist Tue 21-Oct-14 01:15:40

A whole acorn squash each, stuffed with a sauce made from leeks, gruyere cheese and creme fraiche and then oven cooked until tender - delicious.

jamsidedown Mon 20-Oct-14 23:04:40

janerowena that sounds absolutely scrumptious. Mussels tonight with home made frites for DH as I am fasting today.

janerowena Sun 19-Oct-14 18:33:45

DBH's birthday, so I made boeuf bourguignon, with carrots in garlic butter and butternut squash-and-potato mash. Also sneaked some garlic into that. No vampires around here for miles.

Then I made him a beetroot and chocolate cake, filled with a spicy chocolate mixture that had a nod to buttercream, coated in chocolate ganache and drizzled with dark chocolate mirror glaze and topped with white chocolate curls.

For breakfast we had chocolate, almond or plain croissants and apricot conserve, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with toasted home-made bread. Orange juice and coffee.

Back to salads and grains tomorrow. But it was nice while it lasted. DS was at home for the occasion so I sent all the leftovers back with him so that I we wouldn't be tempted.
