As part of our preparations to get the mobile site up and running we are changing the way we do reviews to make sure they work just as well on a phone or tablet as they do on the desktop site.

This means discontinuing the old-style review pages and moving them onto the forums instead. We will also be losing the product reviews topic on the forums as we reckon it's far easier to find reviews for beauty products, say, under 'Style and beauty' or great hotels under 'Travel' than it is to trawl through reams of things that are not relevant to your search.

That bit coming soon - but for now we will be reposting all your reviews for eating and drinking out on this thread so that the info is still available to anyone who'd like to use it. Of course if you have others that you would like to rave/moan about do feel free to add here too.

The Maypole Inn, Thurloxton, Somerset - overall rating 10/10

(From goose1964)

(2011) Very rustic looking, owner has hens in & next to car park. Extremely warm, friendly service. Food very good but son went a few days later when head chef was cooking & he said it was superb.

The North Pole pub, Wateringbury, Kent - overall rating 10/10

(From nanapug)

(2011) This is a newly refurbished pub. Went there for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu was good and the food excellent. Staff too were very welcoming and pleasant. Did not use the dining room but it looks lovely and the loos were very clean and pleasant. Will definitely go again.

The Plough, Cobham, Surrey - overall rating 10/10

(From PatriciaPT)

(2011) Nice atmosphere with an original and delicious menu. I'm not a great fish eater but on the recommendation of the chef (now Head Chef) I tried the sea bass (no longer on the menu I think) and it was delicious. I should declare an interest, the Head Chef is my oldest DGS. But I don't think I'm being biased when I say that he is a creative and excellent cook.

The Roebuck Inn, Winchester - overall rating 9/10

(From Christabel)

(2011) The establishment is under new management and there is a lovely dining room giving plenty of light. There is an extensive menu with a specials board and a list of house favourites that are only £5 Monday to Thursday lunchtime and evening. The staff and the food are very good and the service excellent. There is also a decent selection of real ales which are kept very well.

The Swan, Wilton (nr Marlborough), Wilts - overall rating 10/10

(From eGJ)

(2011) This pub is in the middle of a farming village and near the Kennet & Avon Canal. There's a working windmill close by and the Crofton Beam Engines. So not only is this a welcoming family friendly place it makes a great place to eat before or after visiting one of these local attractions. Lots of locally sourced ingredients both foodwise and ales! The children's menu goes down well and the adults are in for a treat too. The whole place is really buzzing early on a Friday evening when the whole community from 3 days old to nonogenarians all come to eat! Competitive prices; well worth a visit.

The Tempest Arms, Skipton, North Yorkshire - overall rating 9/10

(From noniejoany)

(2011) The Tempest Arms is a pub with a restaurant. It has a big menu (which you may wonder how they can do) but the food is brilliant and the service great. They have rooms and suites too which are very splendid and great for a special occasion.

Amigos Mexican Restaurant, Colchester, Essex - overall rating 8/10

(From Pittcity)

(2014) Amigos Mexican Restaurant is located in a historic building on North Hill in Colchester town centre. It certainly looks the part with its distinctive bright colouring and authentic Mexican menu.

The food is tasty and reasonably priced with the menu including the usual burritos, enchiladas and chillis. There is a choice to please those who like it spicy and those who do not.

There are special offers most nights and a Mexican band on Friday nights.

I give the restaurant 8/10 as we found the food and service good but nothing out of the ordinary. This was midweek so maybe they crank it up a notch at weekends. Still worth a visit for lovers of Mexican food.

Cactus Cafe, Loughborough - overall rating 8/10

(From kittylester)

(2014) A Mexican restaurant that has been in Loughborough for over 20 years. It is right in the centre of town and is popular with students with a lively atmosphere.

They cope with oldies like DH and I too. smile

The food is very good with a fair amount of choice!

The Bear Inn, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire - overall rating 8/10

(2013) Extremely good value food. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Walkers with muddy boots and dogs made very welcome!

The Engineer, Primrose Hill, London - overall rating 8/10

(From stephgr)

(2011) This is a great pub for foodies as the menu is always quite interesting and the quality is high (although so are the prices). Service is friendly and helpful. It's very popular so if you want a table for dinner, it's best to book.

The Five Miles From Anywhere, Upware, Cambridgeshire - overall rating 10/10

(From laam)

(2011) Great service the staff were really helpful even when our 1 year old spilt water everywhere. The food was good with plenty to choose from, there is lots of grass for our 3 year old to have a run around although it is near a river so we had to keep a close eye on her. But there is an enclosed play area away from the river with slides and swings and we had a lovely family meal there and the prices were reasonable.

The Freemasons Arms, Hampstead, London - overall rating 8/10

(From grayjill)

(2011) The food is reasonably good but a little overpriced. The menu is huge so there's something for everyone. It is a great pub for families and the staff are very welcoming towards children. It's perfect for sunny days as there's a large garden with plenty of seats.

The Living Room, Leeds - overall rating 8/10

(From Maggiemaybe)

(2014) The bartenders at the Living Room cocktail lounge provide their own entertainment - they're a talented bunch, throwing the bottles around, spinning the glasses, pouring from over their shoulders, making it an interesting night out. It's a great place for a ladies' night, with plenty of offers, sometimes 2 for 1. Probably quite a young atmosphere - when I've been I've been in the early evening with my daughters and other 30-somethings. And I love a bar with a pianist! There is a restaurant here too, but I haven't tried that.

The Elms, Allesley, Coventry - overall rating 7.5/10

(From suewilly)

(2011) The Elms is part of the Harvester chain of restaurants and therefore it has a menu dictated by the chain which is pretty inflexible.

You can ask for small changes, such as 'no peas' or 'jacket potato instead of chips' but whether you will receive what you asked for is debatable.

Of the 6 people in our party 3 people asked for specifics but only one change was accomodated. The worrying thing was that one of our party asked for their potato without butter as they are dairy free and the potato came with butter.

I'm both vegetarian and coeliac so I struggled to find anything on the menu to suit my diet. The waiter was pleasant but not particularly helpful, just going through the menu with me and saying 'this is veggie' but not really understanding about special dietary requirements.

I marked this restaurant as 7 out of 10 because even though there were mistakes in our order the staff were pleasant, the menu was fairly wide ranging, and the free salad bar was much appreciated. The food for those in our party who didn't request ad-hoc changes was well presented and well cooked.

My only other concern about this place is that the tables are on different levels with steps between each section. There are very few tables that could be reached by someone in a wheelchair and the table we had was in a booth which again would have made disabled access difficult. This wasn't a problem for us as no-one had access difficulties but if you have a disabled member in your party it would be advisable to ring first and try to reserve a table on the main level.

Babylonia Restaurant, Leicester - overall rating 7/10

(From kittylester)

(2014) The food here was absolutely brilliant and the atmosphere fantastic. The waiters were really helpful.

Situated in the heart of Leicester, it is an ideal place to have a pre-theatre meal.
