Top 3 puddings?

Looking forward to a meal out tonight with in laws. We are being taken to an Italian restaurant and as /i am a 'pudding person' I am very much looking forward to coffee gelato for dessert. Tomorrow we have family over and I will make a salted caramel sauce to drizzle over stewed apple and vanilla ice cream.

All this excess got me thinking about my favourite puddings ... could I even begin to choose a top three ? Well rather like choosing fav films - these would have to be the three in the frame just for now ... and in no particular order ...

white chocolate cheesecake with a berry coulis

apple pithivier with salted caramel sauce and cream

the aforementioned coffee gelato.

Are you a pudding person and if so what would you like to see on a menu? smile

What is BlackBerry slump?. Sounds so exciting.

Pretty much anything except the vile rice pudding served up at my junior school, which left a life long loathing of lumpy textures ingrained in my memory angry I do however have fantastic memories o the following which I would nominate as favourites, my grandmother's steamed jam puddings, profiteroles as served in the Spaghetti House chain in London in the 1970s, which were, if my memory serves me well, were only two, but larger than the usual three, smothered in a milk chocolate sauce, not dark chocolate which seems to be the norm. Thirdly, an American desert, Banana Cream Pie, like Banoffi but with a custard topping instead of the toffee part.

Oh goodness, how do I choose just three! Probably , pecan pie, sticky toffee pudding, then a toss up to decide between creme brûlée , panacotta, or pavlova !

My favourite 3 to make are chocolate trifle, summer pudding, and home made ice cream, especially damson or lemon.
Eating out I'd love lemon posset, tiramisu, Eton mess.

Alima did you grow up in Kent? A lot of people beyond the county don't seem to know what gypsy tart is. That is definitely another favourite for me.

Sorry I only suggested 3 puddings in the OP! Feel free to add your other seven!

Didn't get the much anticipated coffee gelato yesterday evening sad. MIL asked us to come back to her's for coffee and cake / pudding. The lemon mousse she served up was delicious, so I shouldn't grumble, but I was so looking forward to that gelato - had forgone the starter to make room for it! There was that awful moment at the restaurant table where everyone else said they were too full / didn't want a dessert and I was just too shy to ask! (Quite funny really)

Forgot another favourite, lemon meringue pie!

I love puddings but eat them rarely as they ate too calorific. Sometimes I will have one instead of lunch or afternoon tea. Some favourites are:-
Chocolate mousse, creme brûlée, blackberry crumble with cream or ice cream, lemon pie ( not tarte or merengue though they are nice too), Pavlova, treacle tart.

I have a Margarite Patten recipe for a French Tarte which has chocolate pastry base, a lemon soufflé filling and a dark chocolate icing ( made with a bar of Bourneville) which is out of this world. It takes an hour to make, looks sensational and tastes divine. I used to make it as a showstopper for dinner parties but don't have these any more, alas, so I don't know if I will ever have this pudding again!

1.apple pie custard
2.warn chocolate fudge cake with cream
3.Christmas pudding with cream
I have number 3 whenever I can.

Definitely a pudding lover,
Creme brulee
Sticky toffee
Pavlova
Mmmmm

Anne2108 Sun 13-Mar-16 08:57:45

Anything lemony - mousse, tarted au citron, Delia Smith's lemon & lime freezer cake.
Hazelnut meringue, filled with cream & raspberries
Pancakes with maple syrup

Anne2108 Sun 13-Mar-16 08:59:40

Don't know where the d came from, but I'm sure a tarted au citron tastes as good as a tarte!

shelana Sun 13-Mar-16 09:05:40

My favourites to make for family and friends are trifle, apple crumble and bread and butter puddings.I add nuts, chocolate, spices and always a dash of something alcoholic!

Jaxie Sun 13-Mar-16 09:16:45

What is gypsy pudding? To be PC would have to be called Traveller's pudding today, surely?

Greyduster Sun 13-Mar-16 09:24:01

I'm more a savoury person than a pudding person, but I do enjoy:
Steamed treacle sponge;
Chocolate mousse with a large blob of cream;
Pineapple upside down cake.

westieyaya Sun 13-Mar-16 09:25:47

My three favourites are
Creme Brûlée, just the plain simple kind - a test of a good chef
Pannacotta, with just the right amount of wobble, see above
Salted Caramel anything!

Skweek1 Sun 13-Mar-16 09:37:01

I like puds, especially lovely creamy rice with cinnamon and dried fruits, which I keep intending to make, since son has never tasted it. We normally only have desserts once a week when MIL comes over for the weekly get-together (one week she cooks, the next we do). I have fruit or a yoghurt most evenings, but none of us is particularly sweet-toothed, but this particular tradition has somehow come into being. I couldn't really come up with a list of favourites, but for a change do enjoy a pud!wine

grandMattie Sun 13-Mar-16 09:56:18

Home made - the ones we have most regularly are: -
Chocolate fudge pudding + custard/yoghurt/ice cream
Good pud [lemon syrup steamed pudding] + loads of custard
and probably
"mincepie tart" - a large mince tart, again with ice cream, custard or plain yog.

Most things in any restaurant.

Gypsy tart - far too sweet. Can't bear it! and yes, we live in Kent...

Imperfect27 Sun 13-Mar-16 09:57:39

Jaxie I posted the recipe link to gypsy tart - yes, not PC name anymore!

Maggie725 Sun 13-Mar-16 10:26:39

I enjoy cheesecakes, ice cream and strudels.
I always look at ingredients, too much sugar or salt and I don't buy it. And I am surprised by how much butter, sugar and fat are in magazine recipes.

Craftycat Sun 13-Mar-16 10:30:34

Really I would prefer 2 starters a pudding or vice versa when we eat out. They are always so much nicer than the mains .

Sticky Toffee
White chocolate Cheesecake
Chocolate Roulade

I always enjoy making the puddings far more than the rest of the meal- I always choose which one I will do first before I decide on the rest of the meal.

Yvon Sun 13-Mar-16 10:57:06

Lemon tart and gipsy tart, yes was brought up in Kent. Can't get it in Yorkshire so have to make my own.

henetha Sun 13-Mar-16 11:01:22

Blackcurrant cheesecake.
Eton mess.
Treacle sponge....
and about a hundred more...

Lupatria Sun 13-Mar-16 11:02:40

ooooooooooo, after reading through the posts and all those lovely puds i can't choose my top three - or even my top ten!!

my mother in law used to ask me to make a gypsy tart - she lived in kent - but i was always unable to find the recipe. in the end i've had to ask a friend of mind who lives in chatham what the recipe is although i've yet to make it.

but you name a pud and i'll probably love it - even rice pudding!! and my creme brulee is to die for.

annifrance Sun 13-Mar-16 11:11:26

Always go for STicky Toffee pudding when I am in English Pub or shopping at M&S. Love Pavlova and discovered the secret is English Double Cream - French cream is rubbish. also Baked Alaska.

oznan Sun 13-Mar-16 12:11:59

Oooh, love puddings when out for a meal-anything involving meringue is my favourite, also sticky toffee or syrup sponge pud and custard, apple pie with ice-cream.Very rarely make them at home though. It seems more of a treat to have one when out then!
