I have bought a jar of Mackays Seedless Bramble Preserve and openend it this morning to have on my toast...I'm in heaven. I normally buy Hartleys but thought I try something different. Which is other gransnetters favourite jam or preserve?

Home-made apricot or peach every time! Home-made berry jams are yummy too. In fact, most home-made preserves are pretty delicious.

Tiptree Little Scarlet strawberry is the best, although I am partial to the apricot too.

I usually buy Tiptree or Bonne Maman strawberry or Raspberry but really only use it for 'jam sponge'. I like my jam sweet so try not to eat it very often.

I like marmalade though!!

I love strawberry jam - which I don't make.

I make loads and loads of various eccentric type jams, researching old and forgotten fruit. sunshine My favourite homemade jam is bullace. It is heavenly, like apricots on steroids! They grow wild in hedgerows - the little plum/apricot fruit that fall all over the roads in September/October. They are really delicious. We have them stewed and, of course, jammed.

I like most jams, especially blackcurrant. My mother was very sniffy about plum jam, which I like a lot, I think it's because of the war, when it was possibly one of the very few options.

Tesco used to do a Polish Black Cherry jam that was to die for. They also used to do Paddington Bear's Breakfast Marmalade which was delicious, sadly they don't stock either now.

my mum's homemade blackberry and apple jam - fantastic. unfortunately if I want it these days I've got to make it myself!!

If you have a W.I market near you all their preserves & chutneys are gorgeous, all home made. We have one on Thursday morning. They also sell plants, flowers, vegetables & cakes. I don't know how they manage to have so much stuff every week without fail

Tip tree " little scarlet" or Bonne Maman " black cherry conserve" yum! Pity I'm on a diet sad

I love all jams and marmalade, preferably grapefruit and quite bitter. Peanut butter and honey (together on toast). Lemon curd.
I make most of my jams and marmalade and I too like a bit of a tang so adore damson or black currant. I no longer make damson though as getting the stones out is too much if a faff, any tips on making this chore quicker and easier?
When making plum jam I like to crack open the stones and add a few kernels to the jam, gives that bitter kick that I like.
Ooh, just thought, love black cherry too but buy it, those stones again.

Sainsburys do a delicious ginger marmalade....I prefer conserves to jam as theres less sugar...

Juggernaut Fri 06-May-16 15:21:45

Tiptree Little Scarlet Strawberry, Wild Blueberry, Ginger, Sweet Tip Raspberry, Tiny Tip Raspberry are all loved in this house.
Waitrose do an Orange Curd, beautiful on crackers.
Tiptree have also started making a Salted Caramel Spread, which is so good it should probably be banned!
My Auntie's homemade Rhubarb and Vanilla curd, once opened it only lasts a week....apparently, it's never around long enough for us to find out!

nonnasusie Fri 06-May-16 15:32:03

Dd home made blackcurrant, my home made apricot or peach (Dh favourite) or home made strawberry. In fact most home made jam because you know what's in it, just fruit and sugar!!

Sourcerer48 Fri 06-May-16 15:51:42

Not really a jam person, but I do love melon & ginger jam (only found in South African shops) also melon konfyt, which is more of a preserve made from the rind of water melon (with the skin removed) in a syrup - probably sounds strange, but it is delish...!

Sourcerer48 Fri 06-May-16 15:54:40

wild water melon preserve (konfyt)

Every year I make lots of Bramble Jelly, seedless rasp., Damson and also red current jelly and give most of it away to family and friends because I'm diabetic so try to keep my sugar intake down. My favourite would have to be Damson.
There's also gooseberries, strawberries, black currents and cherries in the garden, but there's never enough left to make jam with!

tiggypiro Fri 06-May-16 15:59:25

Anything made by my lovely next door neighbour especially her Raspberry and Red Currant.
As a child I could eat Bramble and Apple jam and Wensleydale cheese on thick slabs of new bread. I've just put on a pound thinking about it which is why I don't have it now.

I thought I hated jams as not a sweet-loving person . . . until I saw a French recipe for a jam/conserve using only 400grams of sugar to 2 kilos of fruit.
Now I love it . . . and never have any issue with its keeping quality. I do Gooseberry and strawberry and rhubarb and vanilla and did a purple jam using sloes, blackberries, blackcurrants and some blueberries which was lovely again all with the reduced sugar as above . . . all yummy. Though I did find a few hidden sloe pips lurking in the finished product . . . not good.
And instead of raspberry jam for my victoria sponge I use lemon curd and whipped cream - again I cut down the icing sugar in the whipped cream to 1 tablespoon [recipes said 3] and a tsp of vanilla essence.

grandMattie Fri 06-May-16 16:33:36

I remember having tins of that when I was a child, sourcerer - shouldn't be that difficult to make with the rinds of watermelon...

hulahoop Fri 06-May-16 16:52:47

Don't eat much jam but like Aldi strawberry conserve like bovril on toast best but not at breakfast ☕️

Brupen Fri 06-May-16 17:50:55

Peach is fabulous but so hard to find! Whenever I do find it I buy 2 or 3 jars to keep me going. On croissants it is wonderful !!

Lilyflower Fri 06-May-16 18:31:11

My own raspberry made freshly. Put the same weight of raspberries and sugar into a pan. Bring to the boil and put in clean jars. Cool. refrigerate. Absolute heaven. Summer in a pot.

Leonora47 Fri 06-May-16 18:57:18

Lime Marmalade is absolutely scrumptious to me.?
Quite sharp with tangy slivers of peel.
I usually make four jars in the winter, and they
will last throughout the year.
