Has anybody tried the new ice cream from Waitrose ( the ad is on tv) chocolate ice cream with Sicilian blood orange sorbet? It sounds yummy, who will be noble and test it out first for us??

Craftycat Sun 12-Jun-16 09:10:29

Best ice cream ever . I have 3 tubs in freezer & they are MINE!!!

Molly10 Sun 12-Jun-16 09:14:51

Katek - you can shop on line...why miss out!

Not tried any of the Waitrose ice cream but will have trip there this week for a treat.

C'art dor is pretty good!

I do love a Magnum but peanut butter ones are disappointing.

Haha! crafty, love it! I also hide ice-cream, currently under some frozen salmon. Shh!

thatbags Sun 12-Jun-16 09:16:02

I agree that the Magnum peanut butter ones are disappointing.

I see it as my Christian moral duty to check out new lines when they are offering a 25% discount, but on the whole, being serious, as this IS a serious topic, their old flavours are still the best. In order of (my) preference
Limoncello, Hazelnut, Coffee, Pistachio, Coconut and Lime, Madagascan Vanilla
Chocolate and cherry is too sweet and boring, Chocolate I have decided is not a favourite ice cream flavour.
But do you remember the days of pink, green, brown and "plain" ice cream? I am not sure the colours bore much resemblance to flavours though!
Now nelliemoser your Ginger Wine ice cream sounds veeeeeery interesting........

Venus Sun 12-Jun-16 09:42:02

I have tried the new icecream and it's vey nice . . . then I like most icecream!

HenHarrier24 Sun 12-Jun-16 09:48:48

Nelliemoser - please can we have your green ginger wine ice cream recipe? Sounds yummy!

Neversaydie Sun 12-Jun-16 09:50:42

Aldi Lemon and Mango sorbets are surprisingly good
Waitrose opening near us shortly. I can see housekeeping bills will rocket...
I always think I'm not bothered about ice cream until I eat it .

Didn't the "rainbow" icecream used to be called "Neopolitan" grin

Here's a current favourite dessert to go with your ice cream (someone mentioned freezing/frozen berries) - take some frozen berries out of the freezer (either fresh bought or ready frozen), leave for 15 minutes. Take 150g white chocolate, broken up into heat proof bowl, 100ml double cream.

Put the cream in a small pan and heat until nearly boiling. Remove from the heat and pour over the chocolate, stir until melted. Spoon the fruit into bowls and pour over the hot sauce. Eat immediately (not that that needs to be said). Delicious! The hot white chocolate sauce sort of hardens on the cold berries, and the berries are still a bit crunchy.

Agree with Liz, only ice cream for me is Kelly's, reminds me of my childhood.

I've had the chocolate and blood orange it was gorgeous also the ginger and vanilla even DH liked it and he's not a big lover of ginger it was very subtle and creamy. I must give the hazelnut coconut and lime a go though.

rosesarered Sun 12-Jun-16 10:35:19

Ginger and vanilla! where can I buy that? I must have it!

rosesarered Sun 12-Jun-16 10:36:08

Grannyknot that recipe sounds lovely, easy too.

SueDoku Sun 12-Jun-16 10:39:52

Will someone PLEASE tell Kelly's to restart making their ice cream with golden syrup in it... I've had withdrawal symptoms for two years since they discontinued it... shock

Ramblingrose22 Sun 12-Jun-16 11:48:58

nelliemoser - you have mentioned an ice cream maker!

I've been looking for one that doesn't involve a lot of faff -eg taking the stuff out of the freezer umpteen times to make the ice crystals smaller.

If yours is faff-free, please can you give make and model details?

Thanks.

Alea Sun 12-Jun-16 11:57:23

No it's not Hazelnut Coconut and lime!
It's Hazelnut.
There is also Coconut and Lime.
Do they do a Vanilla and Ginger? Must try that!!

oldgaijin Sun 12-Jun-16 12:17:00

Ooooh Waitrose! One of the few reasons I look forward to going South of the border. I think there is one in Edinburgh but 200 plus miles is a hell of a way to go for an ice cream. We just have beastly Tesco.

Alea Sun 12-Jun-16 12:44:04

There is certainly one in Morningside (well there would be, wouldn't here? grin )

Molly10 Sun 12-Jun-16 13:27:36

Hmmm! Now why did my earlier message disappear?

Katek, you can always order on line!

I have not tried any Waitrose ice cream but will get some this week.

C'Art Dor is lovely.

I love Magnums too but the peanut butter one is disappointing.

rosesarered Sun 12-Jun-16 14:05:13

Molly your earlier message is still there! Is it a must go to Specsavers moment? grin

rosesarered Sun 12-Jun-16 14:06:34

oldgajin Tesco vanilla ice cream [in the oval box) is actually pretty good, ditto their chocolate.

Has anyone else tried making nigella Lawson espresso ice cream made with condensed milk it's really easy and smooth I've made it a couple of times and it doesn't last long in freezer though DH finds it and it's gone.

sweetcakes Sun 12-Jun-16 15:37:48

Yes they do the ginger and vanilla in waitrose we had a taste test it was yummy

Grannyknot Sun 12-Jun-16 17:31:58

Gosh sweetcakes that is a blast from the past my mother used to make ice cream using condensed milk.

Have fallen back in love with ice cream now I have GC.
Our local restaurant sells Turkish Delight ice-cream.
I told them how much I enjoyed it and they have let me in to a secret that they get it from a local farm.
Will be paying it a visit quite soon.
In the past my favorite was Rum and Raisin.
But I like fresher flavors now.
So will be trying Waitrose hopefully in not too distant future.
I need to lose a stone so will have to limit myself to a few licks a day!

Does anyone think the orange sorbet will be less fattening or is there a lot of sugar in it?

We don't have Waitrose by us either, think closest is about 25 miles away
