I've just done my DGS's birthday cake (seeing him tomorrow). He asked for chocolate and it's a plain one because he's having his 'proper cake' (superhero) at his party next weekend.
I also did scones yesterday when a friend came round and although strictly not baking have also made this delicious raw cherry and chocolate fudge. Anyone else baking mad since the weather changed?

I've made a vegan carrot cake, a pear upside down cake and a savoury pie with rice flour pastry. I love baking - I'd rather cook it than eat it!
DH does most of the baking round here. Makes great bread and fruit scones to die for! We try not to do cake but due to a glut of apples on our tress this year I am contemplating making apple crumble and apple cake today. Whether that is realised depends on the demands of dog and GSs! I always find some excuse

Lemon syrup loaves and sour cream chocolate cake - both Nigella recipes.
Apple crumble, toffee muffins and lemon and sultana buns!
Same as you bluebelle Nothing, nada. I never bake, never have and probably never will, but mightily impressed by those who can. However cakes and all things sweet in the house make for temptation so best avoided
My DGS aged 3 & I made Nadiya's chocolate cake yesterday. It's dead simple, never fails & has the most delicious (and highly calorific!) filling & topping. I was never a keen baker until I retired last year but the combination of more time, a keen assistant & GBBO have spurred me on.
All this baking sounds wonderful. I used to bake when the offspring were at home but no more. We are trying to watch our weight... the GCs don't visit often and when they do, they don't stay,
so no reason, really.
Does a potato in the combi microwave count? Thought not.
Started baking again recently. DH and I both inclined to the podge but have discovered the best way to deal with this is to freeze the 'excess'immediately i.e.once moderate slice each . Then I bring it out when I host meetings etc
I too have made Apple cake ( excellent National Trust recipe, one stashed away for up -coming cottage holiday) date loaf (Nadiya-a bit disappointing actually).Mary Berry lemon drizzle .About to try her chocolate brownies as the lemon drizzle recipe is so good Special request from DD2 for upcoming waking holiday ...the only one of the 4 of us who is slim .How can I deprive her ...

Could be interesting.?
I bake all the time. Family put in orders for birthday cakes, muffins etc. This week pulled rhubarb out of the garden and made rhubarb cobbler.
Mary Berrys cup cakes.
I bake every week - DGD age 2 loves making rock buns and fairy cakes. It's amazing how happy little tots are when included in simple baking.
Hilltopgran, please share your MIL's malt loaf recipe, my DH cant have wheat either and he used to love malt loaf. Yesterday i baked a weetabix loaf for my DF
I've baked a scrummy moist Coffee Cake, with Camp Coffee Essence. Delish.
Apple crumble x2 neighbour gave me some apples , date and walnut cake ,fruit buns then I wonder why weight not coming off though to be fair I don't eat these every day
I would love to bake but then would have to eat the resulting cake so I don't bother. Feeling hard done by but virtuous
Well....apple crumble took ages to make (the apples were small and took a while to peel. Have just produced it for DGSs. Nearly all gone in 1 minute.
Love baking but trying to lose weight but made malt loaves to give away this week to satisfy my baking craving!
Best week was last year when I had my bathroom renewed. I made a traybake every day for 10 days and the builders, plumbers, tilers, electricians and joiners ate the lot! I was in baking heaven.
Did I do any baking this week?....Funny you should ask!
So, this past Saturday was my SIL's 50th birthday. DD and I were on the phone two days before (the Thursday night) and I mentioned we were having trouble figuring out a gift. I also asked if she needed help with anything. She told me she hadn't ordered the cake since she had somehow left it for last minute (and why am I not suprised?).
She went on to ask if I didn't mind picking up a large 'sheet' cake at one of the local food stores. "In fact..." she added, "... that could be his birthday gift from you!...it will be perfect!"
NOT thrilled with giving a store bought cake as a present, I nonetheless agreed, reluctantly.
I spent the better part of the day (Friday) visiting several stores and bakeries without success. On such short notice (24 hours on a weekend) my options were limited at best and I came home empty handed. I discussed with hubby at supper and decided I would have to bake a cake for 60 people on my own. Now how hard could that be? (famous last words?). Hubby generously offered to help and off we went again to buy all the ingredients plus a jumbo sized baking pan (the store had one left only).
Long story short, we baked two enormous layers (one chocolate, one yellow cake) First one and then the other. This after realizing that we needed three X the amount of batter not double, as we had originally thought. We came back from the store past eight o clock on Friday and went to bed exhausted at 1:20 AM on Saturday! I later spent the rest of Saturday morning icing and decorating. I'm not a good cake decorator, so you can imagine. I ended up using a bag of M&M candies to cover up a multitude of sins (namely where cake crumbs kept mixing in with the icing or where the mocha filling kept poking through and mixing with my snowy white icing).
To summarize, the cake was more apt for a five year old (five year old making the cake), rather than fifty, but it was delicious and everyone loved that it was so visibly home made and all from scratch. Gift wise, we had to cover our bases so we gave our SIL a very special bottle of wine, just in case.
On a final note, Hubby took a very unflattering picture of me (icing on my chin and hair) whilst I was throwing a tantrum, clad in my pajamas in the middle of my kitchen next to said cake. He also shared it with several of his buddies at the party, so a good time was had by all...and to answer your question...Oh yes..I definitely baked this week!
