What do you have for lunch? Are you a sandwich eater or do you have something else? I’m looking for inspiration to ditch sandwiches so ideas please.

We don’t often have lunch when at home; breakfast and then through to dinner. If we do have something at lunch time it is usually a sandwich, some smoked fish pate and toast, soup or scrambled eggs.

It’s hard to have soup without crusty bread (she says petulantly smile).

OH is having tummy problems and wants to cut down/out bread but it’s harder than he thinks. That’s today’s plan anyway. Thanks for all those lovely ideas.

I try to eat homemade soup or salad with a tuna/cheese sandwich mid day. I've just had a delicious plate of eggs and bacon with brown bread (and lurpak) with a mug of tea. I've been up since 7.45, not stopped till one and felt I needed a treat.

I have just enjoyed a grilled sausage sarnie on very fresh wholemeal bread ( also with Lurpak) and a large mug of tea, after being out and getting a bit cold it was lovely.
mollie I find wholemeal bread much easier to digest than any other.

Ryvita ( dark rye) with some cheese and a hearty soup makes a nice lunch too.

Thank you Monica that’s very kind of you, but I’m not the OP, it’s she who is looking for low carb options. I nearly always eat low carb away so I’ll endorse your suggestions in the main and hope mollie will see them

If you saw the size of my half potatoes you could hardly count a carb . It just makes up for not eating a roll as DH does . I can tell how it affects my blood sugar and it is negligible .Niobe I had to bin the last of my Aldi rolls as I could not face any more . Glad that you like them .

I think it is best to 'eat to my meter' too Floradora. It's the only way we can discover what we can ,and cannot, eat.

We both need lunch to take to work which is really tedious to keep interesting and bread makes me sleepy in the afternoon, take tins of soup or make myself, sometimes get sushi from high street, but hate having to think each day and then supper later

Two hard boiled eggs for me today.

Helenlouise3 Tue 16-Jan-18 20:19:53

poached eggs or beans on toast, warm pitta bread with dips or wraps with various fillings.

Look at the Blood Sugar Diet book by Michael Moseley. Loads of great ideas - it is an 800 calorie a daily diet, so if you don't need to lose weight, just double the quantities (well, nearly double!)

*a day, not a daily.

georgiejg Wed 17-Jan-18 12:36:54

What about a crumpet or wraps, or make a pitta into a pizza

GrandmaMoira Wed 17-Jan-18 20:03:25

I usually have soup (not home-made) in the winter and salad in the summer. Sometimes I have leftovers from dinner the previous day and occasionally a sandwich or egg on toast.
