Your “go to” comfort food?

I am a keen cook, have even done it professionally, but when I feel poorly (like today) my “go to” is warm toast with peanut butter.
Or tinned tomato soup (Heinz de préférence)
If I have the energy, (which I don’t) my final favourite is thick sliced ham, fried egg and (oven) chips.

Seaside ooh forgotten about Farleys rusks. Loved them as a child and when my boys were small we'd all have a bowl of rusks and warm milk. Can you still buy them?

Fish finger sandwich with white bread.
As someone who cooks everything from scratch it is totally out of character but nothing else works.
Mum used to give them to me if I was ill.

Ooh, chip butty with lots of HP or Daddies brown sauce.

I have a Lamb ragu recipe with spaghetti. I could eat bucket
loads of it.

Can’t bear tinned tomato soup, but if I’m off my food then it’s Heinz oxtail for me, there’s usually a tin in the cupboard on standby.

Heinz Tomato Soup with crusty bread (lots of Lurpak)

Cheese on toast with or without beans, depends on my mood

Coffee with 2 sugars (shouldn't have sugar but coffee without doesn't "hit the spot")

Home made soup & crusty bread

Macaroni cheese, preferably home made with leeks & bacon

Good quality dark chocolate, 85% if possible

Off to make a coffee nowgrin

So sorry you are feeling poorly Mawbroonflowers get well soon.
I love toast with butter and good coffee.

When I'm getting over a migraine, though, nothing is more beautiful than cold pure water, preferably Evian.

Professional cook? Aberdeen uni? Is there no end to your talents? I bow in awe! Take care and have a day mollycoddling* yourself. *is that a widely known term? my aunt used to use it for me with migraines, meaning just do what you feel like, be very kind to yourself, cuddle up with a blanket on the sofa by the fire.....

I remember being given pobs as well.
Disgusting, I still can't face warm milk.

Saggi Wed 14-Feb-18 11:43:13

Saggi Wed 14-Feb-18 11:43:59

lindiann Wed 14-Feb-18 11:59:05

If we had a sore throat we were given an oxo cube dissolved with butter with hot water and soaked up bread used to do the trick smile

sharonarnott Wed 14-Feb-18 12:00:29

Crisps and usually a lot of them hmm

sharronr Wed 14-Feb-18 12:01:59

Mine was, and still is porridge. Real comfort food when feeling poorly.

Marmight Wed 14-Feb-18 12:03:15

A boiled egg with soldiers, Ambrosia rice pudding or banana & custard. I haven't been able to eat anything since Monday as my throat is so sore. Going to try a 'nana milkshake later..

Sheilasue Wed 14-Feb-18 12:19:06

inishowen Wed 14-Feb-18 12:21:06

When we come home from a holiday my husband craves a hot curry. I crave a cup of tea and two slices of white toast with butter. I also love tomato soup, and cheese sandwiches.

cheneslieges132 Wed 14-Feb-18 12:27:13

My favourite comfort food is Golden Syrup spread thickly on thickly-buttered (proper Butter!) bread!

annifrance Wed 14-Feb-18 12:45:33

Scrambled eggs on granary toast.

greenbird Wed 14-Feb-18 12:49:08

Thinly sliced white bread with butter and marmalade.
Never ever get a craving for this unless I’m ill (which I have been recently! 1 bout of proper flattening flu and the 2 subsequent cough/cold episodes - ugh!! But loads of marmalade toast ?

grandtanteJE65 Wed 14-Feb-18 12:49:49

Anything milky: custard , rice pudding, porridge made with milk.

If I can't be bothered making any of the above then toast with lashings of butter applied while the toast is hot.

raggyanna Wed 14-Feb-18 12:51:49

Just about to have some, homemade bread toasted with marmite!! Any time of day!

Jayh Wed 14-Feb-18 13:19:43

I am getting over a bout of the dreaded coughing virus. My comfort food, as usual, was a big bag of kettle chips and then disaster! I lost my appetite and could only face warm water to drink. Not even a slice of hot buttery toast to cheer me up. I was miserable. Still am. ?

Redestate841 Wed 14-Feb-18 13:25:01

Pieces of thick bread and hot milk with plenty of sugar, as a child and even now in my senior years if I am poorly.
Soon makes me feel better!

Mapleleaf Wed 14-Feb-18 13:26:36

Chicken soup
Bread, butter and black currant jam

Peardrop50 Wed 14-Feb-18 13:27:33

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling poorly.
Definitely peanut butter on toast before anything else. Also jam sandwiches and strawberry yoghurt when I’m unwell.
Get well soon x
