Please can someone tell me what it is, how to use it and why it's the healthier option?
Should I buy and use it instead of sunflower oil?

I was surprised during a recent discussion to find out that most of the people in the group thought that coconut oil was the same as palm oil.

It obviously isn’t.

To answer your question Elrel I have coconut oil in my store cupboard. I do not have sunflower oil, but I do have rapeseed oil, olive oil, walnut oil and toasted sesame oil.

I use these when the recipes calls for them, or when I feel they are appropriate.

PS I also use butter!

Almost the only thing I don't do is cook with coconut oil and I wish I knew why I'm slightly reluctant. Some good tips here.
Its marvellous for skin care though especially for healing blemishes, scratches and sunburn. I've recently discovered that it's stunning for getting rid of the last lot of athlete's foot. I've been fighting the latter for two years and have used every remedy under the sun! Six weeks of coconut oil applied twice a day and it's gone.
I do hope though that the new interest in coconut oil doesn't mean that some part of the planet is being devastated in order to fulfill our needs.

Thank, everyone. I think I'll drop the sunflower and get a wider range of oils, including coconut!

Coconut oil is good a source of nutrition which provides many benefits to hair. It protects the hair from damage heat and from broken hair. It provides hair growth and makes healthy scalp.

Sunflower oil is a great source for vitamin E, C, D, and antioxidants which help to reduce blood cholesterol level and blood pressure. It also helps to maintain skin smooth and moist.

Rub a bit down your hair now and then for a cheap and effective deep conditioning treatment. Needs two shampoos to remove but works great, very smoothing
