Any professional Aldi shoppers here? What's good and what's not? Is the fruit and veg OK?
Hilarious!
Thanks for giving me my first hearty laugh of the new year!
Can't stand Aldi or Lidl, with their jumble sale items (tat) in the middle aisle and everything in boxes looking like some backstreet warehouse. They may or maybe not a little cheaper, I can't say, but I prefer to pay a few pence more, have more choice and a far nicer experience.
I got a huge bag of carrots last week for 3p- no, not from Aldi. They weren't just any carrots, they were Marks and Spencer carrots. Bargains are to be found everywhere, and in much nicer places.
If you have the time and inclination to go looking for them. The rest of us who prefer to pay less for good quality items and who can look past the cardboard boxes waiting to be unpacked are happy to shop at Lidl or Aldi.
Go Aldi or Lidl. Our local Sainsburys has recently undergone the most abysmal reorganising to incorporate other outlets. The supermarket looks as if someone threw all the departments into the air and planned it where they landed. I only spent £33 on groceries today and it took me an hour to navigate the store. Worse still I asked staff where to find two day to day products and they didn't know. I'm still livid and will go to the Lo Costs up the road for a more stress free shop. Also can use Asda or Tesco locally too.
I find Lidl staff are very helpful and patient with me, as I muddle through paying for different items with different cards, and the bags always seem to end up underneath the shopping that I need to pack into them.
Aldi is ok but they seem to be more expensive lately, with more big brand items, rather than their own cheaper versions. I prefer Lidl. very good quality, enough choice.
As for the weekly specials, many of the Lidl's I go to are city centre, so too small to have them. but where they do, what serendipitous fun, to go in for rolls and soup, and come out with a blow-up canoe, just in case.... and wonderful work shorts, which have been admired as fashion items !
I love the stuff in the middle aisles at Lidl and Aldi and wouldn't describe it as 'tat'. I've bought excellent quality winter jackets for the GCs and ski wear. They had good quality wooden toys at Christmas this year, very reasonably priced.
Oh I wish they would stock Stollen throughout the year - and not just Xmas time
Both our 2 Aldis and our lldl have been either new builds or refurbished There are definitely no boxes or jumble they are Big open, clean, clear, bright and extremely well organised and set out you couldnt go to a nicer supermarket
guizqueen you should come to our new Aldi it makes Marks and Sparks look very old fashioned
I was a Sainsbury's shopper but since retiring has changed to Aldi to make my pension stretch further. Wow if only I had known before, there meat and veg are super. I could have saved myself hundreds when I was working and could have added more to my pension pot. My favourite product besides the steaks is their 'Potato Gratin' whose appearance is not appealing but the taste is delicous.

I hope this link will brighten up your January Aldi and Lidl shopping, Gransnetters!
Both Aldi and Lidl are a bit far away for me to use regularly but I do go occasionally and like different aspects of both.
As others have said the bread section is better at Lidl, I don't eat meat so can't comment on that.
I love Aldis muesli, full of fruit and nuts and they do a fabulous salmon en croute for £3.99, serves four and is good enough to serve at a dinner party. It's in the freezer section, well worth trying.

Love Aldi and Lidl both excellent value. The only thing to watch out for is that the fruit and veg doesn’t last as long as from other supermarkets. This is no bad thing as the fruit and veg hasn’t been artificially stored for months.
Tesco has gone down hill fast can hardly bring myself to go into the store anymore .
We love Aldi. Lidl is okay too, but a bit further away. So far I can't say I've bought anything I've thought was tasteless. The prices are great.
I have found Aldi veg fine but keep an eye on their fruit as the shelf life can be shorter than stores such as Sainsbury's and Tesco's. Aldi flowers are dreadful and even if they look great when purchased, invariably shrivel up without the flowers opening. Drives me mad when the buds all fall off without opening!
Another thumbs up for Lidl and Aldi. Lidl bakery good which our Aldi doesn’t have, also the fruit n veg comes in plastic which I try to avoid. Wine good in Aldi and I bought some good wellington boots and a clothes airer there this week. Clothes airer was £12.99 and very similar one in B and q £28! Aldi vegan sausage rolls are yum buy them in the freezer section.
I like Aldi and Lidl in the UK but in France prefer Lidl. Over the Christmas holidays I used other shops,I went back to Lidl yesterday and thought why do I go elsewhere?
I love Aldi! Binkebonk I've always had great flowers from Aldi! In fact the ones I bought the day before Christmas Eve are still thriving in my hallway! Rib eye steaks are to die for and the fruit and veg is always good. The low fat sausages are a family favourite and the wine is always decent! I could go on.......
I bought a lot of fruit to juice this week and the finger was rotten the avocado mostly rotten. Some of then pineapple was suspect too. So not impressed really
I have yet to find non dairy milk and yogurt. Fruit and veg brilliant. Their vegan selection is getting better. Coffee brilliant. Cereal awful. Found a lovely vegan wine for £4.99 a bottle. Find I am having to shop in two places... Now I am retired I might have the time.

Sorry for trampling on your toes, MawB
Aldi sell almond and soy milk, I’ve seen oat milk in Lidl too. Occasionally Alpro yoghurt. Vegan sausage rolls and ice cream.
I've always shopped on and off at Aldi, even before it became "fashionable". I remember my excitement when they build a store in our town, and my work colleague's shocked expression when I asked if she'd been in. "Oh no", she replied. "Someone might see me in there".!!
I've been without a car for a year now, so I've reverted to Tesco or ASDA home deliveries, but now I'm back with my own wheels again, I am going to plan my shopping at Aldi, and the new Lidl that's just opened quarter of a mile further down the road. They are both on my way home from work, and what I can't get in those two, I can get at Tesco, which is just another quarter of a mile further down the road! We are very well served for supermarkets in this town
I am looking forward to seeing some big savings.
