I remember as a very small child eating bread & milk, white bread cut into cubes, sprinkled with sugar with warm milk poured over it. Mainly a breakfast or supper dish, quite comforting and I certainly don't remember any fancy breakfast cereals from that time. This was when rationing was on and in the South of England so was not just something from Yorkshire. I notice no one has listed things like smoked salmon, pate or steak, it's very heavy on the potatoes and cheese
