So many recipes online, but my go-to book is Delia’s Complete Cookery Course.

It’s a big paperback, my version 1992 so nearly 30 years old, very tatty, stained, but very precious.

My mum gave it to me as an ‘extra’ Christmas present, and every time I use it, which is quite often, I picture her standing with her specs on in our local bookshop, perusing the recipe books and deciding on this one.

Thanks Mum, it was a really useful and much appreciated gift.

Wish you were still here to see me making such good use of it.

Thank you for that idea. Rather than calculate smaller quantities and lesser cooking times this recipe book does it all for you, the meals fit into a very small pyrex dish or a miniature cast iron cook pot. Most of the recipes are for one pot meals, my favourite is Chicken stew with dumplings and Key lime pie pudding made in a ramekin. Yummy.

DD and I were talking about the Marguerite Patten book I mentioned earlier, so I took it down and she was browsing through it. “What’s a gill?” she asked. I told her it was about four fluid ounces. She’d never heard of it!
