This is such a stupid question. Just made hummus. I know there was at least one pip in the juice. Should I just bin it?

GagaJo Sun 10-Jan-21 11:42:36

No! You can pick a pip out when spreading.

MawBe Sun 10-Jan-21 11:45:22

You are kidding?
Pick the pip out when (if!) you find it of course. confused

Grannynannywanny Sun 10-Jan-21 11:49:18

Well if it’s anything like the apples we ate as children you’ll run the risk of a lemon tree growing in your stomach if you swallow a pip 😆

EllanVannin Sun 10-Jan-21 11:52:17

One pip ?
That reminds me of a very posh do that my mum had been invited to years ago with brother and his now, ex. Mum was given her chosen drink---gin with a squeeze of lemon. There, floating around her glass was a pip. Horror of horrors what does she do with it ?

Rather than fish it out with her fingers where the company might notice, she let it get in her mouth then ate it rather than swallow it and perhaps choke and make a bigger spectacle of herself. Glad I wasn't there grin

I thought it would be broken up by the food processor and mixed in. And might be poisonous or cause damage. You can tell I'm a very experienced chef. blush
This is my umpteenth time and never got it right. And the amount of cleaning involved! I think I'll just stick to shop bought. Better get ny apron on....

Grannynannywanny Sun 10-Jan-21 11:58:29

Same here nadateturbe. I’ve had a few attempts at making hummus and given up. I just couldn’t get it right and it didn’t match up to shop bought.

That is funny EllenVannin. And she lived to tell the tale!

Not just me then Grannywannynanny.

I hasten to add I love baking.

Another time put a strainer over the mixer bowl/ blender goblet!

Mawbe I have a husband to tell me what I should have done 😊.

I think I'll stick to what I can do.

Lisagran Sun 10-Jan-21 12:16:12

I always use this recipe - easy, and tasty smile

Thanks Lisagran. I might look....

Davida1968 Sun 10-Jan-21 12:24:51

I really wouldn't worry about one lemon pip. (It's not like looking for damson stones in damson jam - now that's a potential tooth-breakage alert!)

I accidentally swallowed a lime pip which was in my G&T yesterday.
I'm worried now - will I be all right?
Is it poisonous?
Will it sprout inside me?
Will it grow into a tree?

Tabbycat Sun 10-Jan-21 12:49:56

Don't worry, Callistemon, just think of it as one of your five-a-day! wink

Callistemon Sun 10-Jan-21 12:56:26

Tabbycat grin

Charleygirl5 Sun 10-Jan-21 13:00:39

Dear God are we reduced to this?

Lucca Sun 10-Jan-21 13:04:52

What charleygirl ?

nadateturbe Sun 10-Jan-21 13:05:34

Thanks Davida for your helpful answer.

Callistemon, I do hope none of those things happen to you, try not to worry. grin

I once disposed of a pot of soup because I blitzed the sachet of bouquet garni, and another time left in the bay leaf. Was this wrong?
You can tell I chose to do Science at school instead of cookery.

GagaJo Sun 10-Jan-21 13:09:18

I think it is the addition of tahini that gives it that 'houmous-y' taste. Plus leaving it 24 hours to develop.

nadateturbe Sun 10-Jan-21 13:12:05

Charleygirl it might be trivial compared to other topics, but it was very important to me. I'm not very good at cooking (although I do make a good lasagne taught by my MiL). It was actually good being reassured that it was ok to use, and I am so grateful that I have GN. I'm also very nervous about food as I get nauseous very easily.

EMMF1948 Sun 10-Jan-21 13:13:53

I always award a prize to the people who find the bay leaves in my spag sauce!

PECS Sun 10-Jan-21 13:14:00

OP..this is a joke / wind up ...right?

nadateturbe Sun 10-Jan-21 13:15:41

Will do Gagajo. thanks....and then spread thinly and look for pip.grin
It does actually taste quite nice.
