Marcus Rashford - he has donated personally, and football clubs and individual footballers have donated more than 4m so far, as well as spearheading a campaign to put pressure on the Government, which is quite appropriate. He’s an inspirational role model I think.

So many do, earnshaw, but people prefer to pick on footballers......as if no other sports men/women earned vast fortunes for burning petrol/hitting a ball/riding a horse etc

They exist, they should not exist in this country, but they do.

Earn Shaw, Marcus Rashford not only effectively campaigns, he volunteers and donates to various charities. So do many footballers, whose charitable work isn’t publicised.

What a mealy mouthed OP, it’s like reading a chapter from Dickens or Angela’s Ashes, where some cold hearted official decides who deserves charity.

It goes to show how appreciative Marcus was of the way his mum worked to keep his family going. She had 2 or 3 jobs to keep them fed and to also see that they had a roof over their heads. I bet they didn't get help. Well done to her and a big thankyou to her elder son for thinking of others.

Rashford got free school meals, which is why he is so passionate about the cause.
He knows what a big impact they had on his life.

I have never understood why children who qualified for free school meals weren’t provided with food during school holidays.

That's the thing with a lot of this help.
It isn't joined up.

Last lockdown was the only time I was offered childcare, ever. We fend for ourselves the rest of the time, my grandson and me.

Yes earnshaw Children really are starving these days. Not necessarily because their families are poor but many Parents have lost their jobs and it is particularly hard for those who were self employed. People from all backgrounds are now using food banks as a means of survival.

There is one person I admire more than Marcus Rashford and that is his mum. She has inspired him to be who he is.

Farmers can't feed waste to pigs now since outbreaks of swine fever in Europe.
Not sure what that has to do with footballers or hungry children though.

Weird comment about pig swill. It raised happy memories of my teens when I helped out on a small pig farm. We lived on the coast, so daily during the summer holidays, we’d take the horse and cart along the hotels and B and Bs collecting swill in metal dust bins. The pigs would be waiting as we returned. One big aggressive pig lived separately and one of us would keep him back in his shelter while the other tipped his food, then we’d get out quick. Pigs, lovely creatures ❤️

There are definitely children going hungry - for all manner of reasons, but one thing is for sure, it is never the fault of the child. I can't think why anyone would object to hungry children being fed - no child should go hungry in this day and age. There are teachers who keep a stash of breakfast biscuits or similar in their classrooms because they know some pupils won't have had anything before they come to school.
