Cooking sausages under an electric grill

This is really an enquiry on DD's behalf. I hope that is allowed.

She has just replaced an all gas cooker with a dual fuel cooker, which means an electric grill. When ever she grills sausages under the grill, the fat spatters, hits the grill elements andwhich then burn it producing lots of smoke. Something the gas grill didn't do.

Does anyone else grill sausages under an electric grill and how do they deal with the clouds of smoke this produces?

I grew up with grilled sausages but much prefer fried- faster too - only about 10 minutes or so. Oven is very slow and tends to dry them out.

I think that Elegran has given advice needed. Most electric grills have two levels and for sausages - use the lower one. Then adjust the heat. Do not use on highest heat. Do not forget to prick sausages all over. Grill slowly and carefully, turning them regularly. Use foil to line base of grill pan, to collect fat that drips down. All sausages, even the most expensive, have fat in them, and grilling is a very good way of ensuring that when we eat them, we have little of that fat left behind.

I do mine in the air fryer.
Can`t stand electric grills.

Certainly, that’s a common issue with electric grills, as the heating elements are more exposed than in gas models, causing fat to splatter and smoke. One tip is to use a drip tray underneath the sausages to catch the fat before it reaches the elements. Another approach is to lower the heat slightly and cook the sausages longer to reduce splatter. If she’s interested in exploring alternatives, Expert Grill offers various models that might give a more controlled grilling experience without excessive smoke.

I only cook them in the airfryer now, no spitting and they cook quickly and brown all over without turning them.

I cook mine in air fryer or ninja, 😋

3 year old post, but I guess sausages are still needing to be cooked.

I often used to grill sausage under an electric grill before the air fryer was invented, I think the secret is putting them on a lower shelf

I think harryjoe slipped in an advert and resurrection an OLD THREAD?

I think harryjoe is cooking spam fritters not sausages.

I boil my sausages for ten minutes in a good rolling boil. Then brown in frying pan.

Witzend Mon 04-Nov-24 20:12:31

I always do ours (good quality minimal fat ones) in a frying pan.

I microwave 2 sausages for 1 minute 30 seconds then put them under the electric grill to colour.
I wish I still had my eye level gas grill.

Well, I tried to point out it was an OLD THREAD!!!

Yes, grilling sausages under an electric grill can cause spattering and smoke as the fat hits the elements. To reduce this, try using a drip tray to catch excess fat or place the sausages lower in the grill. If you're open to alternatives, a Master Forge grill might give better results with less smoke due to better ventilation

Since my new kitchen was fitted, the small top oven doubles as grill and microwave.
I’ve given up grilling sausages, I fry or if they’re big fat ones, oven cook, (yes I know, profligate)

If I have time and more than a couple to cook I use the oven
other wise a frying pan, if I’m doing Tomatoes and Mushrooms too, or Air fryer, never the Grill.

I grill mine under a electric grill. Just reduce the heat , they won't spit then

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 26-Nov-24 21:29:05

I have an electric grill, the only way to cook them without flames and smoke is with the grill pan on a lower rail and turn the grill down to slower setting.

In the end I gave up and I now put them in the oven.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 26-Nov-24 21:29:34

Oh dear i didn’t look at the date!

When they’re brown they’re done. When they’re black they’re buggered. 😂
Perhaps MOnica could tell us that this 3YEAR OLD PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
