Has anyone ever managed to lose weight by giving up wine, but otherwise eating a normal diet?

Asking for a friend!

I have alwaysonsidered wine driking or any alcoholic drink an overrated pleasure.

ir doesn't taste very nice, I think it is called an 'acquired' taste, it makes you feel woozy and unbalanced at the time you drink it, and ill the next day,

I am not teetotal. I love a glass of rich red wine with a good meal out, a pint of bitter or shandy in a pub on a hot day, and a glass of home-made sloe gin sipped by the fire on a cold windy winter evening, But as for drinking it regularly, just for the sake of it, no thanks. I find socilaising with friends is less fun when they are drinking alcohol.

I am with antonia and Kate1949 100%.
We all know the dangers of drinking, just as we all know lifes too short to put the glass down.
I could be dead this time tomorrow for any or several reasons.
CHEERS.

I don’t know how much you’d have to drink on a regular basis for it to make much difference - half a bottle?

I usually have a small glass of wine (an old fashioned glass, much smaller than the average nowadays) while cooking the dinner, but since dh is away for a month and I’m doing the absolute minimum of cooking, I’m not even having that - so far, anyway.

A relative of dh is still a major wine-drinker - I do mean a lot - and he’s been seriously obese for years now, but IMO it’s down to food intake, too. He’s been extraordinarily successful in his career, though.

I have about an inch or so of red wine topped up with lemony soda water. I enjoy it while I'm cooking tea. I like to think it makes me more creative!

Surely it is all down to how much wine? A glass at night (or in my case one glass every couple of nights) isn't going to make much difference, however a bottle a night will. We all know the risks of drinking to excess but if we gave up everything that someone at some point has said is bad for us - we would be eating very little and drinking only water and wouldn't that be a fun lifestyle!
