Flavoured hot cross buns-yummy or an abomination?

Oh no. A step too far for me, just a good old fashioned Hot Cross bun and I try to hold out until Easter before eating one (or 3).

I finished off a pack of salted caramel and chocolate ones from aldi. They were nice, but I prefer the original ones.

DH likes M&S's marmite flavoured cheese hot cross buns. Don't know why they aren't just buns!

Never heard of any other thuan trad. Not before Good Friday and when I used to make them when the children were at home.

I give every new flavour the once over.

If its flavoured it is not a Hot Cross Bun, just a flavoured bun.

Just the original for me too - not keen, but a bit like mince pies - seasonal, so I feel I must have one, just to say I’ve had one!

I like flavoured, spicy buns.

I love them too - mind you I love anything with Marmite! Love trying the new flavours.

I usually buy trad ones to make bread and butter pud. Any time of year. Don’t think marmite ones would work………but, perhaps worth a try?

I’ve never fancied trying the flavoured ones. We somehow manage to hold off eating them until a week or two before Easter. With great difficulty!

I like the chocolate ones (no surprise there) and the apple and cinnamon, oh and the orange ones too!

They are very nice, they just don't beat the original though as that has the most erm... hot cross buness really

I'd draw the line at marmite as I'm in the 'hate it' camp, but many of the sweet variations are good, chocolate, caramel etc. This week we've tried a hot cross scone - very nice!

Ooh yes - apple and cinnamon, orange, give them all a try. Except perhaps marmite. That might be a step too far.

I haven't tried any of the fancy pants flavours.
The usual ones are too lovely to mess about with.

I’m a traditionalist concerning hot cross buns. They are a spicy bun with a cross on top. I only eat them on Good Friday. Anything else (marmite, cheese etc.) are NOT hot cross buns.

The thing for me is the difference in even basic HCBs. Asda-soft, stay fresh longer, Sainsbury’s -always seem dry even when I first open the packet, Aldi and Lidl-hit and miss, M&S too expensive in cash and time by the time I’ve got into town and I’m not that impressed anyway. Local Supermarket-normal-dry and boring but their choc chip and ginger are amazing.
