Iceland (the shop) shopping advice

Frozen fruit

sugarfree biscuits. Greggs individual pies vegetarian. Special offers on eggs etc. pensioners discount on a Tuesday, (not that I`m suggesting you`re a pensioner at all!

Household cleaners, toilet roll, tinned food, slimming world meals occasionally.

Bread, rolls, cheese, cooked meats, coleslaw, salad items, frozen veg, chips, fish. Lots of things. We got most of our Christmas pàrty food from there. I love Iceland and save on their Bonus card all year round to help with Christmas food.

Oh well, good ideas.
Anything to avoid?!

we buy the bags of cooked chicken, you can defrost what you need for sandwiches/wraps the following day

Never find a lot in Iceland and I think the prices have gone up so much

I’m a fairly new shopper at Iceland and only started last year when I received an online only voucher. I used it towards a home delivery.
Afterwards, they regular sent discount vouchers and offers such as free next day delivery.
I’ve found them excellent but limited for us as we only have a fridge freezer with not much storage. They do sell fresh fruit/veg and some store cupboard items but their range is limited at our small branch.
Never had anything bad.
Favourites at the moment are:

Here’s my tip… set up an online account, using your home postcode, even if you intend to shop in store. That way you can see exactly what they have in “your” store by looking through the various menus. You can then make a shopping list of items to look at, knowing that your local stocks them. It will certainly save time, especially if your branch is fairly large.

Lamb and mint kebabs. They are reshaped from lamb mince, so more like small doner kebabs than ones made with chunks of meat. Very tasty, and cook well in the Halogen oven/air fryer as well as in the big oven. Chips or potato croquettes done in beside them take about the same length of time, which is very convenient. A pack is too many for me, but they freeze well.

They don't always have them in stock, though. What was very odd was that when they vanished in Iceland they reappeared in Tesco, and when Tesco had none, they were back in Iceland.

The frozen fruit is very good,I think they must open freeze it as it’s never mushy like some we’ve had from other supermarkets.
They often have offers on basics like tinned soup and household items such as fabric conditioner.
We have to shop on line as still avoiding supermarkets due to being vulnerable and their on line delivery is very good. Everything reasonably long dated,well packed and dropped at the door by cheerful delivery drivers.
. They do use carrier bags for which they charge£1.00 per delivery but they can be recycled.

Tuna, Salmon, Prawns - Arctic Royal - expensive but you get what you pay for. Frozen vegetables.

It's so difficult, isn't it, to discuss food recommendations when one man's meat will so readily be another man's poison.

I do take your take point, Noola about being daunted by the scale and range of products in the large supermarkets- my local Tesco Extra has that effect on me!

What I do instead is to browse their web pages instead and see what is there at my leisure, then make notes and or choices.

I too would endorse suggestions of their online shop.

Love Iceland beware stuff is in big bags at the Iceland warehouse. The normal Iceland does smaller bags ideal to fill your freezer. They do free delivery over a certain amount£40 I think.

i like their ice-cream.
also greek yogurt.

Frozen garlic bread, part bake petit pains, Turkish delight thins, Macaroni Cheese, cheese bites, McCain quick cook French fries, plus regular items but at cheap Iceland prices. They have lots of special offers. Worth going online to see what they do. You may be surprised,

I go to Iceland for bananas. They always have plenty of nice ripe ones, the way I like them.

I like that you can shop in store and they will deliver it for you.
Frozen Greggs products are great. I like the frozen Biryani for a quick meal. The frozen veg and ingredients have a big choice.

Never have a problem buying from Iceland - if anything - tend to overbuy thinking it will go in the freezer!1 Well it would if we ate something else first!! lol!
There's a good mix of fresh, frozen, tinned and shelf ready products - just not as wide a variety as the big supermarkets.

Forgot to mention Patterson shortbread fingers are very reasonably priced and nice to eat at only £1 a box of 24.

Up until recently, Iceland were offering 10% off on a Tuesday for shoppers over 60. (Proof of age needed).
Hopefully still on; haven’t been in for a couple of weeks.

I do my basic shop at Iceland :

Cleaning products , but not detergent .
Fish .
Lamb shanks .
Cold meats .
Fruit , salad and vegetables .
Milk and other dairy products ie : cheese .
Some bread , biscuits and cakes ( their Victoria Sponge ) plus milk chocolate .
Some of the luxury ready meals and frozen vegetables .

I shop at Sainsburies and M and S as well , because it does get a bit limited .
