Who will be eating haggis, neeps and tatties tonight?
I’ve got my McSweens ready but have to say it’s not a patch on those from Waters the Butcher in Selkirk High Street or Tommy Kerr on the Hawick Road!

I once complained to McSween because I found their haggis very bland, they were most apologetic, said it must be a sub standard batch and sent me two as compensation!

Will you be going to a proper Burns Supper - even better?
Wish I could but they are thin n the ground in N Bucks. sad

I have made rumpledethumps inspired by here, thank you, just need to put the cheese on later.

The McSween's factory is just a few miles from us. Most supermarkets stock it - or they do around here, anyway.

Burns lunch today with some other Grans. Lovely peppery haggis perfect with bashed neeps and tatties.

Happy Burns Night to all our Scottish GNetters !!!

I made Balmoral chicken stuffed with haggis neeps tatties and kale with whiskey sauce. Scots homemade marmalade jelly with whiskey cream and shortbread. A nod to my Scots ancestors.

We didn't buy a haggis so will have pretend the sausages are a haggis; we do have neeps and tatties.

Happy Burns Night to all who are celebrating.

FannyCornforth

Where do you all get your McSween’s from?

(Yes, I know that I could Google, but where’s the fun in that?)

The M&S one is made by McSweens.

There are lots of Scots who live around here and one used to organise an excellent Burns Night each year. Alas, he returned to Scotland and no-one else seems to have taken over the mantle.

Now you’re talking!

Ooh, looks good, I might make that tomorrow with leftovers!

We often have haggis needs and tatties in this house, it's not just for Burns Night.
We've had fish today, but we had our haggis at the weekend. I even went to the trouble of making a whisky sauce to go with it. Delicious.

Blondiescot Wed 25-Jan-23 19:22:03

I sometimes make haggis lasagne - it's lovely!

Aveline Wed 25-Jan-23 19:48:25

Crispy haggis balls are nice as are haggis samosas.

Jane71 Wed 25-Jan-23 19:58:42

We've had vege haggis with neeps and taties, followed by whisky. I suspect we'll have more whisky before the night is out.

Had the holy trinity for dinner. Love haggis, which is amazing for me. I'm usually very picky about food. Delish tho.

I live in Ayrshire and no i won't be eating Haggis, mince, neeps and tatties on our table tonight, with Glayva to wash it down.

Here we are, ‘twas lovely.

Yummy. Hope mine is as nice. I found the recipe on the farmersgirls kitchen - a Scottish farmers’s wife with lots of Scottish recipes.

Yes son 2 and I celebrated in style but no haggis on this occasion. Saluted the Bard in our own little way.

I’ve just been invited to a belated Burns Night themed supper next Friday. I’ve been asked to make a dessert but the host is allergic to raspberries so any suggestions?

25Avalon Sat 28-Jan-23 18:36:07

I put the McSween vegetarian haggis in the oven at the same time as the rumpledethumps. The cheese topping needed longer so I left both in. There was a load bang and the haggis exploded at one end spewing contents onto the oven floor. So don’t overcook your haggis! It all tasted good though.

I cooked ours in the microwave 25Avalon, 5 minutes.
