Why don’t eggs when boiled, shelled, cut up on a plate and eaten with a fork taste anywhere near as good as a boiled egg with the top cut off and eaten with a spoon from an egg cup?

I wish I knew!! I'm partial to both but much prefer boiled eggs in an egg cup with soldiers

Me too. A boiled egg is my favourite breakfast. And always with soldiers.

I agree with the last two posters, dippy egg with soldiers the best breakfast or light lunch .

I’ve just eaten scrambled eggs for lunch. Very good but not as good as the two soft boiled I had a few days ago

hard boiled and chopped up in a cup with butter and salt and pepper ,its my go to for dinner when I'm on my own .

Yum! That’s the Irish way - a cuppy egg. My Mum always made us these. ❤️

I'm obsessed with boily eggs

My daughter used to love egg sandwiches with salad cream. No one would sit next to her on the coach when she went on school trips if she got her sandwiches out.grin

I am having a boiled egg salad for my dinner later. Love hard boiled eggs with pickle.

I love a couple of cuppy eggs, lots of butter and black pepper, delicious!

For me boiled eggs are the only food which need salt added. Yum.

I've just had another one this morning. Lovely! I don't find that four minutes is quite enough, so do five... but not a second longer so that the yoke is too set. How many minutes do others find perfect?

Juliet27 Thu 04-May-23 10:27:44

I’ve never touched a soft boiled egg since I felt that wiggly balance bit on my tongue. A boiled egg has to be really solid for me.

Oh yes, an egg in a cup - mashed up with butter. Lovely. I made egg mayo sandwiches the other day and they were so nice too - hadn't had that for ages. We are lucky enough to have a couple of little places near us which have chickens and ducks roaming freely, so we get proper free range eggs every week.

Egg mayo sandwiches left over from a picnic are delicious toasted under the grill ….

BigBertha1 Thu 04-May-23 11:31:34

I hate smelly egg sandwiches and watching someone eating them with the mayonnaise all squelching out of their mouth is a nightmare.

I love eggs in a cup with soldiers. Eggs have to be hard boiled and I mix them with a little mayo not butter. The toast gets either spread very thinly with mayo or left bare. I never add salt or pepper but if I eat hard boiled eggs otherwise, e.g. on a picnic, then I always sprinkle salt on it.
Love egg and tomato sandwiches, and eggs cooked any and every way, but they must be thoroughly cooked, couldn’t eat what a friend once described as “dooly” eggs (soft and runny, especially the white).

I give a large egg 4 mins 45 seconds. This gives perfectly set white and runny yolk.

I use Delias method. Bring the water to simmering point , not boiling! Lower the egg/s into the water and simmer for exactly one minute. Turn the heat off , cover the pan and time for exactly 6 minutes - always perfect just as I like them !

My favourite is microwave poached on toast. Yummy.

Didn’t know it was the Irish way, but we were always given this as a treat when were were kids, just heaven on a little spoon!

Comfort food, going back to childhood Even when my DC were older, nothing could beat a soft boiled egg with soldiers for the first ‘meal’ after an illness.

Forlornhope Thu 04-May-23 13:50:18

I often have a boiled egg for lunch but in the last two or three weeks they seem to taste odd almost as if they are on the turn, but they’ve come from different boxes and all within their sell by dates. Is it me or has anyone else noticed this with their boiled eggs?
