And if so, why?

DamaskRose Sun 02-Jul-23 22:37:42

Never have never will.

I'm the same. A quote with damp kitchen paper is all they need. Done this for over 40 years not dead yet.

Patsy70 Sun 02-Jul-23 21:16:26

No, just a wipe with kitchen towel, and I use the stalks too, why wouldn’t I?

Doodledog Sun 02-Jul-23 20:59:40

No. I wipe anything noticeable off with a damp sheet of kitchen roll, and am alive to tell the tale.

Not at all. The goodness is in the skin. Just give them a wipe with a dry piece of kitchen towel to remove any of the compost they are grown in. Wetting them will just make them slimy.

Never, just a quick wipe over. Surely life is too short!

MrsKen33 Sun 02-Jul-23 19:56:08

No, as the say life is too short

SachaMac Sun 02-Jul-23 19:29:01

I don’t peel the small white ones, I just wipe them with kitchen roll but for some reason I tend to peel the really large flat mushrooms.

Thanks for that link, lixy. Looks good and I have some barley to use up.

Salti Sun 02-Jul-23 19:15:31

Delia said don't do it. Good enough for me. ....and I'm lazy.

lixy Sun 02-Jul-23 18:46:50

I don't peel mushrooms, just a wipe with kitchen roll if needed.

I do like this recipe for soup which is not a smooth soup, so no blending involved.

No, just a rinse.

mumofmadboys Sun 02-Jul-23 17:36:11

definite no! just wash them

grannypiper Sun 02-Jul-23 17:20:15

No, just a wipe over with dry kitchen roll if they need it.

dogsmother Sun 02-Jul-23 17:18:51

Oh dear, feel a bit daft now. I sometimes do. Always feel a bit guilty if I don’t, maybe I shouldn’t worry anymore.

Blossoming Sun 02-Jul-23 17:13:30

No, what a waste!

AGAA4 Sun 02-Jul-23 17:11:42

I rinse them in a colander and leave them to drain on kitchen paper.

Witzend Sun 02-Jul-23 17:08:28

Never, never have.
My mother used to, but she was extremely finicky about all sorts.

ginny Sun 02-Jul-23 17:04:09

No. Sometimes wipe with kitchen towel and take a little off the stalks if they are a bit dry.

Davida1968 Sun 02-Jul-23 15:11:53

Another No!

Grantanow Sun 02-Jul-23 14:55:51

Of course not. I knock any soil off and take out the stalks which I use in casseroles.

sharon103 Sun 02-Jul-23 14:07:55

Yes I always peel them.

Baggs Sun 02-Jul-23 14:00:48

BlueBelle

Yes I ve always peeled them that’s how Nan used to do it
It takes two seconds because it just comes away so easily
never wash them though that takes longer

Bit more than 2 seconds if you're dealing with 300g of mushrooms wink.

The context for the query is making mushroom soup in a Swan Soup Maker I bought recently. I broke the glass of my KitchenAid blender a couple of years ago and have missed its soup-making usefulness. I didn’t use it for much other than soup-making so went for a not too expensive soup-maker from a local shop.

Despite using the gadget’s own recipe for mushroom soup, we have not managed to make a mushroom soup successfully with it. It managed tomato and basil soup no bother and I shall try its other suggested recipe for leek and potato soup.

We have managed to make “mushroom sludge”. Twice. Just as well I can use mushroom sludge in mince recipes.

Anyway, MrB thought peeling the mushrooms would help and I thought not. Even peeled the caps of commonly sold field mushrooms are a different (stiffer) consistency from the gills and the soup-maker can’t cope with them.

Perhaps I still need a blender for actual mushroom soup-making.

No.
