Crisps

So disappointing, treated my self spontaneously to a packet of ready salted crisps.
Sat down to enjoy, even invited little dog to sit alongside me to share…..well first one was spat out in disgust! Tomato Ketchup flavour read the packet on closer inspection.
There in lies a lesson don’t rely on the colour of the packet! A very red pack of walkers is not necessarily ready salted.

Aveline Sun 22-Oct-23 09:48:36

Oh dear. Did the dog finish them off?

BigBertha1 Sun 22-Oct-23 10:07:00

Walkers - eugh! They only have these at our golf club and I really don't like them. Give me Tyrells anyday- although after joining SW next week don't give me any at all. I will really miss crisps.

Try Frips (could be Frisps), if you can get them.

Bella23 Sun 22-Oct-23 10:27:42

Try the Co-op specials they have come out top in Whitch's tests. On the other hand, if you can't resist a crisp which I can't, don't be tempted.sad

Yes - The Co-ops special crisps are great - I get the lightly sorted variety. They’re the ‘hand cooked’ type, but the potatoes are thinly sliced, so they don’t present a danger to my teeth!
I find the other brands of kettle type crisps too thick and overly crunchy.

Remember the days of Smiths crisps with a twist of blue paper of salt inside the bag! And Golden Wonder (I think) bringing out the first ‘flavour’ being cheese ‘n’ onion.

Poor you dogsmother with tomato flavour! I’ve never tried them but they don’t sound very nice!

The best crisps are Pipers, only recently available in supermarkets and then only large packets. We buy from the wholesaler and stock the smaller packets on the bar. Ready sea salted crisps come in blue.

One of the few edibles I can’t keep in the house.
I can’t stop eating them, but only really like ready salted.
I think they have a tiny amount of something addictive added to keep us hooked just like Dreamies are to cats.

Aveline Sun 22-Oct-23 11:38:13

I'm sorely tempted to try Dreamies. It's scary how important they seem to be to my 'boys'. Meanwhile I find 'Cheddars' deliciously tempting. So cheesy and crunchy (and full of salt and fat sad)

dogsmother Sun 22-Oct-23 12:58:57

Yes Aveline, the dog was delighted.
I’m not too sure when I will next fancy a packet but will check out the co-op brands.

M&S Roast Beef ( and something) are very nice too. Not too painful to munch either. Great in a sandwich.
Still love cheesy wotsits even though they turn mouths orange.

NotSpaghetti Sun 22-Oct-23 13:25:40

I am a crisp fan..
I have chocolates here that have gone white waiting to be eaten- but in the back of my mind I'm always aware if there's a packet of crisps in the house! grin

And yes, I like tomato ones!

MiniMoon Sun 22-Oct-23 13:31:53

I can't resist cheesy Wotsits. I daren't keep them in the house. My other great snack love, Twiglets.
I'm really not a potato crisp fan.

Witzend Sun 22-Oct-23 13:36:02

The only ‘crisps’ I really like are Walkers Sensations, both flavours, but they call themselves ‘poppadums’ not actual crisps. Exceedingly moreish, to me, anyway.
Dh will scoff any old crisps at any time.

Georgesgran Sun 22-Oct-23 13:51:05

Can I add that I’ve never understood the crisps in sandwiches thing. DH used to do it, but I’d rather have a few crisps on the side to go with the sandwich, but not in it.

I ❤️ Roysters t bone steak flavour

Shinamae Sun 22-Oct-23 14:05:35

I am on a sensible eating plan and allow myself one tube of Pringles cheese and onion per week ..😋

Llamedos13 Sun 22-Oct-23 14:15:06

Tayto from N.Ireland are my all time favourite, when I was a little kid I had a packet of their cheese and onion as a special treat every Friday. The British Shop here in Canada bring them in around Christmas time so I stock up.

Jaxjacky Sun 22-Oct-23 14:59:42

I bought MrJ a whole box of Tayto crisps one year, I wrapped them, as part of his Christmas presents Llamedos!

I like Walker's ready salted the best, especially in a ham sandwich. I have found that Tesco sell a Walker's lower salt version which tastes just the same to me. I kid myself that they are healthier!

JaneJudge Sun 22-Oct-23 15:10:37

oh yes in a ham sandwich!

JackyB Sun 22-Oct-23 15:16:06

Funnily enough, I have found that I like ketchup flavoured Pringles. It's a case of two wrongs actually making a right. Normally wouldn't eat either Ketchup or Pringles.

grannysyb Sun 22-Oct-23 16:28:49

I like crisps, but don't buy them as I would eat them! I once read that if you ate a small packet of crisps every day for a year you would ingest for litres of oil, don't know if its true!

Beechnut Sun 22-Oct-23 17:56:52

shysal, JaneJudge you’ve tempted me. Roll on shopping day 🤣
