Apparently one in five Brits feel they couldn't survive without nuggets. I don't recall ever eating one! The one food I would not like to be without is cheese. What would yours be?

Just pointing out that it’s 19% of Brits who eat nuggets, not 19% of Brits!

Mine is spinach and mashed potatoes, plus fruit,; easy peelers, grapes and bananas

polly123

Chopped up and reformed chicken with additives - no thanks.

I’m with you on that polly123. Sorry that’s the only choice where you shop. Fortunately, the ones we buy aren’t like that.

I have so far! (78 years) The food I could not do without is nuts.

I have eaten chicken nuggets occasionally but I could happily live without them. I would hate to never eat nice fresh bread again or have my proper morning coffee. I find it hard giving up chocolate so guess that would be on my list too.

As usual, plenty of views on here by those with opinions based on no actual experience. There's absolutely nothing wrong with chicken nuggets - Birds Eye are not the only ones made with 100% chicken breast meat & I bet most of the protesters aren't averse to chicken breast & even prefer it to the more flavoursome thigh meat. Just where does the idea that nuggets comprise " chopped up & reformed chicken" or worse, come from? And as for those who sanctimoniously make their own version from....chicken breast meat, but of course they call them " goujons" - well, they would, wouldn't they? I'll agree, there are chicken nuggets that don't comprise the best quality meat, but you wouldn't buy those anyway. To tar them all with the same brush is just silly & SO snobby, for want of a better word. If I give our DGSs chicken nuggets, I eat them too. I like them & I don't care who knows it. I wouldn't expire if I never ate them again but I might if I didn't have good coffee, cheese, chocolates (any type, I'm not proud), cheesy mash & any dry, fizzy wine from prosecco to Tattinger & beyond.

I’m a dreadful grannie. My freezer includes chicken nuggets (not the cheap versions), fish fingers and chips. Very handy for those ‘mum are you busy? Any chance you can get the children from school’

If we are talking about chicken nuggets I like them as a change or when I am too lazy to make anything that can't be fried straoght out of the freezer. This only happens on average once every two months or so.

So yes, I could live without them.

I can't live without coffee, cheese, smoked salami, rice pudding, boiled potatoes, mince, cooked any way you can think of, butter and cream.

My DGD loves chicken nuggets so I keep them in the freezer for when she comes.I did try living without cheese, it was horrible - until I was told that Mature cheddar contains the enzyme required to digest the cheese. I love mature cheddar cheese.

Having nevere eaten nuggets, I do think I can do without.

I’ve nicked the odd chicken nugget when my grandchildren have them but they don’t mean anything to me I prefer a meal not a snack. The one thing I couldn’t survive with is Toast, nothing on earth better than a nice cup of tea and a slice of toast with butter, sometimes with jam or marmalade but to me it’s the one thing that covers everything you could need quick and so easy but so nice ☺️

We often make our own nuggets. Breadcrumbs, egg and chunks of chicken done in the Airfryer. I could live without them but don't enjoy the heavily processed ones anyway.

No nuggets here either. It's crusty bread for me I love it back on SW so no bread for a while for me.

We have bought and eaten chicken nuggets but then GC grew up a bit and now they enjoy making them, They are delicious when freshly made and baked rather than deep fried.
We did once try small nuggets sold as chicken popcorn - wouldn't bother with that again!

Could and would adapt of course - but I would miss my morning coffee.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 14-Nov-23 21:01:07

I would miss raspberries, cream, beef and chocolate in all its forms.

GS3 loves McDonalds nuggets as it's one of the few things that get past his food issues. We always have to get an extra large portion because the cat adores them.

I'm happy as long as I've got pasta, rice, cheese and tinned tomatoes in the house.

CanadianGran Tue 14-Nov-23 20:36:16

Although I have bought them for GC in the past, I find them tasteless, and the insides not really recognizable as chicken.

It's really not hard to make them, so I do on occasion. I didn't realize they were also called goujons, I just call them chicken fingers.

On holiday in France with the family , we went to a restaurant off the beaten track and they served a set -no choice menu very nice , but also unusually a children’s “chicken nuggets and fries” Oh my they were divine! Not your out of the bag frozen option but freshly made from proper chicken and deep fried. We were given a tiny morsel to try from the GC . So some nuggets are better than others!

Yes, I've tasted chef-made chicken nuggets when the DGC ordered them at a restaurant and theh were very good. Proper pieces of chicken in a light batter.
