28 / 11. Tuesday.
Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.
Deliah,
Thank you and all our best wishes for a healthy, successful and Happy New Year 2024.
Glad you have enjoyed my post !!
Thank you.
Well done Cabbie. Your husband has been honoured.
Cabbie21 well done. I hope you enjoyed your feast.
Today would have been my husband’s 77th birthday. I decided to honour his memory by putting the oven on, as I did most Sundays at lunch time, but rarely since he died earlier this year. I cooked a pork steak surrounded by roast veg- potatoes, carrots, parsnip, served with sprouting broccoli and gravy. To make good use of the oven I also made cheese scones, which he loved.
Sunday Brunch today the 10th of December.
Spanish Omelette and a Cardoon & Leek Soup.
Lovely. And the quiche looks delicious. What’s in it?
We have our 2 un-unidentical twins daughters and their husbands & dogs visiting ..
Breakfast this morning was:
My French Quiche ..
Visitors: Edmond the French Bull & Pierre, the Dalmation.
Delila,
Yes, what a wonderful well told read ..
Thank you for sharing ..
In 1968 we had a delicious lunch in Casa Anita in Cadaques, Spain. Everyone had the same main dish, based on fish and tomato - there was no choice. Anita gave me extra, as I was pregnant! It must have been the Menú del Dia. I’ve always remembered the lovely happy atmosphere as we dined with the locals. We stayed in Cadaques for 5 weeks and often lunched at Casa Anita, always only one dish on the menu.
Ladies,
Re: Answering a few questions.
1) The Madrid Capital is not a building .. It is a specific city located in the Autonomous region of " La Comunidad de Madrid" ..
2) No, it is not a café.
3) In the Constitution of Spain, there is an amendment which includes a " laboral lunch of 3 servings" called a Menú del Día which is offered at a fair price throughout the city.
4) I was born and raised in France and attended University abroad and studied Mass Communications & Journalism.
My bachelor of arts degree - Vancouver - 3 years
My Masters of arts degree - New York School of Journalism - 2years
My Professional Internship - 1 year at a major Publishing House.
Then I returned to France .. And shortly afterwards, I met my Spanish husband who stopped me to ask if I knew where a certain building was as he had "engineer´s meeting" to attend. His first words were: "Do you speak English or Spanish"...
Well, the rest is history.
We are married 32 years ..
Best wishes for a nice evening.
Yesterday was sausage and mash, with onion gravy and courgettes.
Today we just had a cup of tea and a slice of Banana and Walnut cake at lunch time.
Tonight it will be Chicken in a white wine and cream sauce. DH is doing the potatoes and carrots , probably have some sweetheart cabbage as well. Then the 2 odd mince pies, made with left overs from the dozen I made earlier.

Thanks for replying. Your photos are very enticing - I hoped you were writing a book of delicious recipes!
Enjoy your evening!
German Shepherds Mumm,
I did not realise that you had been enquiring if I have a Blog ?
No, I do not have a Blog.
I publish a Digital Flip book Magazine on a digital platform on enological topics, travel and trade fairs in Spanish & French.
I am a journalist and also write for a few expatriate magazines.
Have a nice Sunday.
I made a pan of veg and spicy bean soup to have for lunch it’s enough for two days.
This what I got when I googled.
Maybe some of the OP’s post was a bit lost in translation.
Perhaps he/she might return to clarify?
We have lunch at one and supper at about 6/7 pm. Which is what happened when we both worked
So do we.
Funny you should say that Bella. Round here everyone but us is up at the crack of dawn, lunch at midday, tea around 4-5 and early to bed. We have a light lunch about 1.00 and our main meal about 7.00 and all the neighbours’ houses are in darkness long before we go to bed. The country way I suppose.
Sorry, typo! Helenlouise?
Perhaps I need to buy an airfryer.
Does it take much cleaning, Helenlouiee?
Helenlouise3
I threw some cherry toms and garlic into the airfryer and drizzled with some olive oil. While I mashed them up I warmed some ciabbatta olive rolls and then spread them with the tomato mix. We had it with a melted Camembert cheese and boy was it yummy?
I think you should change your name to something more exotic or cosmopolitan sounding and put an a at the end of each one. Your lunch sounds delicious and I'm not being sarcastic. I would accept an invite for lunch anytime.
Maybe you could write a book for tired grans who have run out of inspiration. I love Sainsbury's part cooked Ciabatta rolls
We're an oddity in our village anyway. They have their dinner at 12 midday and tea at 4 pm followed by supper.

Lunch today was half of a sausage roll.
Thrilling.
I cook later

Sausage and mash any day please!
I love sausage and mash 😋 With lashings of butter. And no beans.
