Does anyone have a recipe for these cakes, they were one of the first things we made in cookery in school, I think they were are rubbing in method and you put jam in the thumbprint indentations then baked. I am not even sure the name I am using is correct but was the only way I could think of describing them.

Mention of Larry cakes brought back happy memories of visits to my aunt. Her milkman delivered them and they were delicious. I haven’t made Melting Moments in years but I might try them with my gd. She’s not keen on jam however, would chocolate spread work?

These cakes remind me of Jammie Dodger biscuits. I made a normal sponge cake filled it with jam and cream, made an indentation in the middle with the bottom of a small glass, left the glass in place whilst I iced the top and then when the icing had hardened I filled the indentation with strawberry jam. A Jammie Dodger cake.

I haven't made them, but will .
We made scones at school .
I still have my Grandma's cloth bound cookery book from 1930's - I think .
You can't beat the old cake recipes even if the measurements are in imperial !

I made some on the weekend. Our recipes here use volume instead of weights, but I found a recipe. The batter was quite crumbly, but I managed to get it together with a bit of kneading. I realize now I should have just added a bit of milk which would have worked.

Thanks for the suggestion; they are good. It's the first time I made them.

They're often to be found in Be-Ro cookbooks.
