The difference a little lemon zest/juice can make…

I made some oat biscuits earlier - so quick and easy, but IMO vastly improved by a little lemon zest and juice.

Ditto banana bread - a dd frequently makes this - they’ve so often got over-ripe bananas, but to me it’s over-sweet and is vastly improved by lemon zest.

They freeze well & are then easy to grate & always there when you need lemon, can be bought when on sale.

Lemon or lime juice is a must squeezed on to salmon before baking.
Avocados need lemon juice (and salt)

I cooked some eating apples the other day which had been hanging around in the fruit bowl; the juice of a lemon gave them the necessary tang.

Courgette and lime cake.
Lemon layer pudding

I picked a load of plums last year, halved them before freezing. Afterwards my hands were stained brown, I scrubbed with soap and water, it made no difference.
Rubbing with half a lemon removed the stains.

I'm not a great fan of pork until I tried mixing some lemon juice with some ginger marmalade and using it as a sauce .I've also tried a splash of soy in it as well .

Double yum !!

Oh my, craving lemon now. I have some empty tart shells...

I don't do much cooking these days , but when I did - I found that a lemon dessert was the most successful .
Some ladies considered it to be OK on their diet !

I think that we like having our tastebuds tickled by the sharpness .

I'd also do a chocolate dessert for those wanting indulgence !
And I'd smile when I saw people take both with that I shouldn't really look !

I plan to roast a chicken today in the Ninja and will stuff the insides with some lemons, which are past their sell by date. I don't intend to waste them.

What about our tooth enamel?

Who is going to be sucking a lemon on its own?.
All the recepies mentioned here, use lemon with other ingredients, which lessens the risk, I think.
Everything in moderation.

What about our tooth enamel?

When I was a teenager, PLJ (pure lemon juice) in hot water every morning was supposed to be good for teenage spots and diet.

I drank it every morning for a few years and had acid erosion of my front teeth and ended up needing them to be crowned when I was 30.

When I was pregnant with DD1 I absolutely craved PLJ. I started off on the plastic lemons, but needed at least two or three daily, so soon graduated to a whole bottle every day. Once on a train journey I was guzzling out of a bottle discreetly hidden in a brown paper bag and was given a look of disgust and horror by another passenger across the aisle, who obviously thought this heavily pregnant woman was on the hard stuff. grin

Marydoll 🤣🤣🤣
I think there are one or two Gransnetters who do that before posting!

Everything in moderation as said by Marydoll .
My mother used to drink PLJ and eat some awful slimming bread - combined with cigarettes and alcohol - it was a lethal mixture .
She ended up with a massive stomach haemorrhage and nearly died .

I usually squeeze lemon into my black tea and when I have a double espresso I put a wee piece of lemon peel into it.People have thought that was bonkers ..all except one Italian woman I met in the 80's ,she said all her family did the same.
Seems the mysterious Italian DNA that I have shows in strange ways

I put lemon into so many things, most mentioned here. I have had a severe aversion to vinegar, and was thrilled to find some time ago that lemon juice could be used instead of vinegar in salad dressings.

I’ve made salad dressing with olive all and lemon juice for ages - again it started with our time in Cyprus.
