Any recommendations for a good curry sauce??

I spent ages last night making a curry from scratch to use up the leftover chicken from Sunday. By the time I'd finished, I didn't feel like eating it and it wasn't even all that good!
Can anyone recommend a good quality readymade curry sauce that I could just add to the meat and vegetables to save all the time and effort? At 80, with various health problems and generally in constant pain, I feel like taking the easy way.

We recently had some excellent ready made curry meals from Morrisons, the Rogan Josh had lovely tender lamb in it and plenty for one person. We never get the ones with a portion of rice in the pack, there isn't enough of the meat and sauce in the pack.

Same here. We use the microwave-in-the-bag rice, 2 minutes and it's done. Plenty for two people 😋

Notagranny44 I'm a lazy time-poor cook.
I buy frozen ready-chopped white onions and frozen puréed garlic and ginger cubes from Tesco. So easy 😁

You can buy frozen chopped ginger too. Tesco does a small packet.

I found if I bought ginger, I used some and most of it got wasted.

Loyd Grossman sauces are good but not so easily obtainable now.
Sharwoods are fine.

It has to be Geeta's chutney 🙂

If you peel your ginger and then freeze it take it out when needed grate what you want and put back in the freezer .

Nishaan garlic and onion paste is a reasonable price and lasts ages in the fridge. Easily available from Ocado and Asda. A good starting base. Then I use Kohinoor butter chicken sauce and add leftover roast chicken or king prawns.

Forget all the jars and find your way to either B&M ….they sell Mayflower curry sauce ….it comes in powder form and you just mix a certain amount with water ….instructions are on box….and you add your cooked meat to the simmering process ….and add to your rice ! It’s fantastic and tastes just like a Chinese takeaway curry . It really is my favourite .

Would you know if they’re gluten free please Saggi.

Spice Tailor excellent. Pack includes packet of fresh herbs and one or two sauces. On offer at £2.50 in some supermarkets.

Get yourself a copy of the Hairy Bikers Great Curries. Their recipes are actually easy and taste great.

Mandala express do dry mix and tubs of curry sauce. It is made in the north east of England and don't know where it is available to purchase as we get it from a local butcher but it is worth googling as I believe they have online service too. This is the most authentic sauce I have ever tasted and your meal presents like a top class restaurant.

Waste of effort, trying to make a decent curry with already-cooked leftovers. They go into a stir-fry more successfully.

But if you want a curry from remains, best do as many here are recommending and throw in some type of Patak paste or sauce. Personally I prefer the pastes.

When I couldn't stand long enough to do much cooking, a jar of sauce and some protein I personally like paneer, was doable, especially as I had managed to get what I think was described as an ironing stool from Cooper's of stortford via the charity shop, it folds down, and I was able to sit while I used the hob

I find leftover cooked chicken disintegrates when cooked again in a sauce and the resulting curry is a mushy mess.
I’d always use raw meat or fish for a curry, the flavour is far better.
Leftover roast chicken is excellent in coronation chicken however, either the classic recipe or one of its many iterations.

I find Spice Tailor very good. Bit more expensive but worth it. They are quite often on offer

Agreed. I like spice tailor too.

If you fancy a Chinese curry for a change Maysan is fantastic and easy.

I used to buy a curry sauce paste from the local Chinese warehouse shop you just had to add water, it was delicious. Why don’t you try it.

Have a look at your local curry restaurant, as they may do cartons of sauces to takeaway. Ours does.

Just remembered that our local farm shop does curry sauces that are supposed to be very good although we haven't tried them yet.

Hi, I found this thread really interesting and wanted to share my experience. I've been searching for curry sauces to simplify my cooking and came across some great newly launched Indian ready-to-cook products, including some excellent gravy bases. I love Indian food but don’t know how to cook it perfectly, so I tried their All-Purpose Makhani Gravy to make Chicken Makhani. I had it with naan (a type of Indian bread) and enjoyed a full, delicious meal.

Cooking it was super easy—just add 150 ml of water to the pan with the mixture, then add chicken (or vegetables or meat, based on your preference), and cook for 15-20 minutes. The water helps to enhance the flavors and create a rich aroma. I highly recommend trying their products to make your own recipes and enjoy. They are fantastic, and you’re definitely going to love them.

Another plus here for Spice Tailor. The Keralan Coconut makes a very good vegetable curry.

And if you want a good mango chutney to go with your curry I recently found this: Geetas Premium Mango chutney. Definitely a cut above the norm.

Patak’s Madras in the jar or pots.

I saw a programme recently testing ready meal curries, Tesco came out on top so maybe ready meals or try Tesco own brand curry sauce in a jar.
