frozen food does not go off. It degrades and gets freezer burn and the texture is stringy. Use a vacupak machine and that extends its useful life because of the lack of air.

Changing the subject slightly I got some 'woops' chicken and wanted to bag it up in ones or twos so I used greaseproof paper hopefully it will be easier to separate. Going back to the original poster I always buy Chicken when its a 'woops' a never had any problem with using it after its been in the freezer had more problems buying it fresh and using it from the fridge.

It was awful, WWM also the singeing of the tail (?) feathers.

Who can remember the smell of a chicken being drawn. And I remember the eggs being found inside of the bird..

I think that happened in most homes when I was young, whiff.

The ready frozen chicken or chicken pieces you buy in shops will have been frozen 9-12 months ago .Freezing chicken at home will last 9-12 months . Even if it's defrosted and well cooked it can be frozen again without causing food poisoning. Chicken that has been frozen them defrosted tastes no different to fresh as fresh in the supermarket can mean it's was processed couple of months before appearing in the shops.

Only truly fresh chicken is to kill it yourself and cooked within minutes of plucking and drawing . My dad used to keep chickens killed them I plucked them and he drew them and mom cooked them.

Thanks all. They were fine and the recipe was delicious. If they'd looked or smelled dodgy, I'd have binned them but I think DH wanted to bin them as soon as he saw the dates.

I don't think that they become dangerous if they overstay their allotted time but the quality starts to deteriorate.

Frozen chicken lasts for much longer than three months , enjoy them !

What is he worried about? - food poisoning or a degradation in flavour? He could be right about the second; but they will do you no harm.
