Remember when you bought a loaf of Mothers Pride , buttered (or marged) it and made ham or cheese or fish paste or (posh this) egg mayonnaise sandwiches?
Now a single sandwich costs more than the MP, butter and the fillings.
But some are really worth it.
Favourites?
Bacon, Brie and cranberries or Coronation Chicken for me.
Humble cheese and pickle too as long as the cheese is sliced not grated which always tastes of sick to me.

This morning I bought a pack of jumbo sized fish fingers from Aldi and I have just had two on a bread roll with tartare sauce. I haven’t had one of these since I was very young and it was delicious! Brought back lots of memories too.

I like an egg sandwich with or without cress but it must be on brown bread.

Oh yes, I'm with Charlie- an egg sandwich is a fine thing.

Mozzarella, pesto and tomato on wholemeal.

Smashed avocado on sourdough with bacon or smoked salmon.

Cheddar and tomato on any kind of bread.

Cheese with crushed cheese and onion crisps, surprisingly nice.

Tuna and cucumber for me please. In a crisp mini baguette if possible.

Home made pesto, sauteed mushrooms and a slice of cheddar in a toasted sandwich. Malted sourdough bread.
Works for me!

I do love a fish finger sandwich... although my sauce of choice is tomato!
A lovely treat.

if egg, i prefer it with salad cream rather than mayonnaise

GrannyIvy Thu 11-Jul-24 13:17:55

Tuna, mayo & cucumber or grated cheese and tomato.
I don’t like fancy things bit of a plain Jane. No club in the club for me 😂😂

MissAdventure Thu 11-Jul-24 13:25:38

I've just had one of my all yime favourites.
Cheese and pickle, with a garnish packet of crisps.

Here up north we ( well some of us) like a chip butty.
The chips must be salted and put on the bread while hot so that the butter melts. It must be white sliced bread, on this occasion brown won’t do.
You can feel your arteries hardening while eating it.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 11-Jul-24 13:26:17

Smoked salmon and cream cheese

Tuna and red onion

Beef and whole grain mustard

My all time favourite though is a crab sandwich 😋

Just how I like mine, too.
Sarnies, not arteries. smile

From my childhood I still like a mashed Banana sandwich, on white bread with real butter.
Or if I'm ever poorly plain cheese.
Some of theses other sandwiches mentioned sound nice though.

Anniebach Thu 11-Jul-24 13:32:26

Anything with marmite

DamaskRose Thu 11-Jul-24 13:34:22

Pickled beetroot (on Boxing Day) with butter on white bread. I’m not a big sandwich person otherwise .

Daddima Thu 11-Jul-24 13:36:51

Egg and tomato on white bread always takes me back to the sandwiches I got on school trips, and my aunt always gave us mashed banana and Cadbury’s Flake on white bread and butter.
I have a friend who says there is no food which cannot be a sandwich filling. Scotch pie in a roll is a particular favourite.

pably15 Thu 11-Jul-24 13:38:49

hard boiled egg with mayo and chives for me..

pably15 Thu 11-Jul-24 13:41:35
