Sunday roast is it still eaten

As we were eating our Sunday roast dinner, I said to my husband do you think this a meal that is dying out. Our adult children rarely cook it, or is it something only the grandparents cook these days. I know we don’t often have a joint as they’re so expensive, but substitute lamb steak or chops for the meat part of the meal.

We once had a cat that found a thawing steak on the worktop and dragged it off through his cat flap, we could follow the trail.

My cat once stole a chicken breast I was about to use for a roast dinner.
He'd only nibbled a bit, so I put it on my friend's husband's plate blush

Ate Sunday roast beef today with Yorkshire pud, pigs in blankets, carrots, cauliflower, roast spuds, a block of sage stuffing and fresh horseradish sauce. Yum.

Roast dinners for 2 people are pretty easy when you have an air fryer. It's not the roast dinner I would do if family/friends were arriving but very little effort for a roast dinner for two.

Cook meat, let rest. Then do roasters in the air fryer in the fat from the meat, steam veg, make gravy, add Yorkshires/stuffing balls to air fryer while roasters are finishing.

It makes a huge difference doesn't it? I think what I like most is that most of the mess is restricted to one pot grin

Well, DS said he was cooking a roast dinner when he phoned but I'm not!

I did cook one last weekend, but rarely nowadays.

Must investigate, my oven needs a professional clean after last week's roast pork with crackling.

I once bought fish from the local fish van for my husband's dinner. Put it on the worktop and nipped to the loo - when I returned to the kitchen, the cat was nibbling the end of it. I shooed the cat away, trimmed the fish, egged and breadcrumbed it and never let on to OH! grin

I take it you didn't like him very much 😂

Our dinner was lovely btw, chicken casserole with garlic and herbs with mashed/creamed potatoes and three vegetables.

My DD and DGD are both vegetarians, whilst my SIL is a meat eating Yorkshireman. So once a month I get an invitation to Sunday lunch and he cooks a full Roast dinner, complete with Yummy Yorkshire puddings for the 2 of us and a vegetarian version for his wife and daughter. I always come home with an extra plateful for me to eat on Monday. Yum Yum Yum smile

Sunday roast every week. During summer months it’s chicken, so the leftovers can be used in a salad. Autumn and winter we have pork/lamb or beef.

I’m not a particularly good cook, but I make an average roast that’s good enough.

I once painstakingly made a beautifully decorated salmon mousse for a dinner party starter.

Put it on the table, called everyone to come, but it was a few minutes before they’d all finished their G&Ts, gone for a wee, etc.
Meanwhile, our dog had sniffed out this tantalising aroma, had managed to reach it, and had taken a fair sized slurp out of the side!

Thank goodness, both guest couples were supremely unfussy, pet-owning types who just found it hilarious. I just sliced that bit off - with a fair margin - and we had it anyway.

We usually have a roast on a Sunday but its normally chops or chicken breasts wrapped in bacon. I did buy a chicken last week we made soup and a stir fry with what was left. I would love to go out for Sunday lunch but they are all very expensive near us. For the 2 of us a pint for MOH and a glass of wine for me, 2 meals around £50. That's a 3rd of my housekeeping money so don't see that happening very often.
