Didn’t know they used rupees in N Devon.
Seems a heck of a long way for Amazon Prime to deliver for free too confused

I wish I had posted it now, causing you this much worry about it 😂😂

What's the matter with you? Tesco and all other supermarkets sell plain porridge oats, I buy the Jumbo oats.

There’s nothing the matter with me and why do you have to be so bloody rude?

I still feel confusedconfused at the relevance of the products illustrated in OP’s pics. 🤨🤨🤨🤨

Well, I really wouldn’t lose any sleep over that…😂😂

mabon1 why so abrupt?Shinamae has explained that she takes the porridge to work for her 20 minutes break. She only has access to a microwave.

Just a suggestion for another time, as I see you’ve ordered some sugar free sachets, Shinamae (I hadn’t realised from your first post that you wanted them for work), but could you measure out enough oats the night before into a microwaveable container (you can get some that look like mugs) and then add your milk/water once you’re ready to eat them and pop them in the microwave at work for a few minutes on high? It might work out less expensive than buying the sachets.

That's what I was wondering about too.

I don't eat porridge very often because it spikes my blood glucose, but when I do, I put 40g of plain oats with milk and cinnamon in the microwave.

Shiname Presumably you have access to milk/water at work, so why don't you just use oats from a big packet?

I buy the Quaker porridge oats sachets for DH, plain flavour the ingredients listed are Wholegrain rolled oats, I wonder if when Shinamae is looking at nutrition info on the box she is seeing the made up value which includes the milk , don't forget milk contains naturally occurring sugars.

I am Gluten free and buy NAIRNS Scottish porridge GF oats …I add milk/ water as appropriate and cook them in the microwave in a LARGE bowl due to spillage. Done! Add whatever you want…in my case it’s molasses dark brown sugar!

Are you ok with the Nairns GF Oats?
I tried them but even they caused problems, they might be gluten-free but it's the avenin in the oats, I think.

I might eating them try again and see what happens.

I'm sorry if I come across as a porridge snob. Perhaps I am!
It just saddens me that people can be seduced by marketing to go for something with claims to be easy, quick and very healthy when the original is often just as easy and quick and even better for you.

Musicgirl , as children my Mum always gave us porridge for breakfast in the winter months. You just triggered my memory of a bowl of porridge sprinkled with sugar and cold milk poured on - loved it !

Vintagegirl Mon 04-Nov-24 14:56:11

For years I made batch of porridge in a slow cooker using whole oats or groats. I would reheat in microwave and add some molasses brown sugar and greek yogurt. I seem to have stopped making it as I think the groats were hard to source?

Sainsbury's do organic oats for not very much.

As others have said perhaps you could try ‘ordinary’ porridge sometime - I used to make it in the microwave at work and it didn’t take long at all.

teachkate Mon 04-Nov-24 14:07:09

You could perhaps try overnight oats to take to work?
Soak oats in milk (or even better oat milk - takes the taste to a whole new level!) overnight and they’ll be ready to eat at work for your lunch with some added fruit, seeds or nuts yummy

I have proper porridge made with milk. Sometimes l make it with whole milk as it is so creamy. Scotts Porridge Oats. There is no sugar either in the oats or added by me. I still occasionally like Ready Brek. It is actually very nutritious and we had it a lot as children. When my Dad had porridge, he would first add sugar, then cold milk on top. I never liked it like this, but I believe it was quite normal years ago.

Shinamae Mon 04-Nov-24 12:51:59

These are going into Work today because they are far too sweet for me
I have ordered some no sugar sachets and they should be here today

MissInterpreted Mon 04-Nov-24 12:49:34

I may be as Scottish as they come, but I'm no porridge snob! Have your porridge however you like it - whether that's the traditional way with salt or with any topping you like! Oh, and when I did work, I do confess that occasionally I would use one of the microwave porridge pots for convenience sake (shock horror!)

Naughtyneine Mon 04-Nov-24 12:29:00

I'm going to throw this in and then run like mad😂
I make my porridge ( or Neine's special porridge as it used to known as) with milk and when ready a large knob of butter ( I can hear the screams) and brown sugar. I was on retreat once on a monastic island off the West Wales coast and everyone who tried it my way loved it.

I think Shinamae has had a bit of a tough time with some responses from the ' Porridge Police ' !

Thanks for recognising that
I really take a notice of those people as they are usually like it on other threads to other posters as well
If it keeps them happy, that’s fine with me 😂😂😂

Granmarderby10

25Avalon can you please tell me where you buy your rosehip syrup from?😋

Granmarderby10 I don’t. I make my own every Autumn - just rose hips, sugar, and time. I can send you the recipe if you like but obviously no use until next year. It makes about 4 bottles which I reckon is about £20’s worth.

If you Google you can buy on line.

Did anybody else collect rosehips as a child and take them to a collection centre where you got a few bob (if you were lucky) for your bags?
I’m assuming they were then turned into Delrosa syrup which we were dosed with to boost our vitamin C.
Oh happy days.
