Trump and the death penalty

From The Mirror this morning.

These people are already on death row, how do you all feel about the below:-

“US Army prepares for first military executions in 50 years awaiting Trump order
The US Army is drawing up plans to carry out four military executions of death row inmates for the first time in more than 50 years, pending approval from President Donald Trump.

The US Army is preparing to conduct four executions should President Donald Trump issue the command, according to an internal planning document seen by ABC News.

The plan, if implemented, would represent the first occasion the military has executed convicted American prisoners in more than half a century. "Operation Resolute Justice" instructs Army officials to liaise with the Federal Bureau of Prisons to move condemned inmates from the US Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the federal execution facility in Terre Haute, Indiana.“

Personally, I simply don’t agree with the death penalty, however horrific the crime, it doesn’t act as a deterrent and I, imo, just find this act quite ironic, committing a murder to punish a murderer for breaking the law by murdering someone? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I do believe some crimes mean that individual should never be free to walk and work alongside the rest of society.

What do you fine folk think and feel about this?

Perhaps a better option is to give these criminals the opportunity to choose between whole life imprisonment, with some form of work being done or the means to take their own lives?

Cossy - I need to remind myself that Trump hasn’t reached top Trump. He can always find something more disgusting to impose

Our history indicates the hangmen had what we’d now see as mental health problems on retiring

Never mind the effect on the criminal, not being facetious, but what about the effect on the military personnel? To suddenly have to be in an execution squad.
This is a backward and barbaric step.
This President out of control.

I agree that the perpetrators of some sexual and violent crimes should be incarcerated for life.

The death penalty, though, is always wrong and barbaric. We don’t live in the Middle Ages.

I don't support the death penalty and I don't think military personnel signed up to become executioners. Trump is well on the way to becoming a despot and no-one seems to be able to stop him. Who knows what he will be able to do by the time the next election is due.

This from a president who has pardoned the people jailed for their part in the insurrection in which people died ( and also, I believe, is planning to pay them compensation?). angry

Bit behind on the news, read your thread title and immediately thought, to quote the marvellous Fred MCCauley, “what’s the mad b*****d” done now?”

Nothing that lunatic does surprises me any more. He must be making life very difficult for satirists. Nothing they can say will top him.

Never, I do not agree with the death penalty at all
How can you punish a murderer by murdering them !!!
It doesn’t make sense
Too many people have been imprisoned that are innocent another reason
The man’s a total narcissistic psychopath I can’t wait for him to disappear

I completely agree.

He truly is the gift which keeps on giving!

I too feel empathy for the military!

He’s also lifted bans on trophy hunting, too. Is here anything good about this man? Whenever there is talk of executions in America I always think of an excellent film I saw many years ago; The Executioners Song’ starring Tommy Lee Jones, along with, of course, The Green Mile. Dare I ask what colour the condemned people are ( although I think I can guess…). Maybe he wants to cause riots so he can instigate a state of emergency and cancel the mid term elections hmm. With Trump you sometimes have to think outside of the box…
