Good afternoon!

Over the years I have managed to ruin a LOT of frying pans, the non-stick wears off and I have to bin them.

The latest one was a gift, a Le Creuset one, I have had it 7 years but it is no good anymore.

Can any of you recommend a pan that is no stupidly expensive that has a VERY good non stick coating? And what am I doing wrong, I only ever handwash pans with soapy water.

Nope, I go through a lot myself. All depends on how much use they get.

Oh I was hoping for some recommendations too, I’m a serial fry pan AND non stick pots! Looking for a good pot for scrambled egg!

And me. I couldn't lift my Le Creuset one now. I got some free with my new Smeg Cooker which seem OK- although the cooker is c**p. Otherwise I buy standard John Lewis ones and throw them out when they fail.

I am surprised anyone buys Le Cruset, it’s so heavy, can’t manage it empty never mind full of food.

Has anyone got recommendations for none Teflon coated, none stick pans? I don’t like the chemical coating coming off in food when they are starting to wear.

This one Desdemona as a wrecker myself this has lasted 5 years, I’m so impressed I bought another one a couple of years later in case they went out of stock. I could be waiting a long time to use it.

Thanks for your replies.

That one looks good Jaxjacky, I will have a look now, thanks smile

I keep a separate one for omelettes and no-one else is allowed to use it. I also use a cast iron skillet for certain things. And others. If anything sticks, I give the pan a soak with soda crystals, good wuality washing-up liquid and hot water. Never causes any damage.

I think some cooking fats are better than others both for cooking with and for being less damaging to non-stick surfaces.

Do you use Fry Light? That's know to wreck pans as it takes off the non-stick. Went through a few before I was told that. Also not recommended for Air fryers.
I buy cheepy ones from M&S seems to last longer than more expensive ones.

Le Creuset will replace any product that has failed. Not sure what is meant by 'wrecked' but my Le Creusets are in their third decade with no sign of deterioration.

I am a serial frying pan replacer, tried everyone out there and wrecked each of them, i just factor it into my household running costs,

Why don't you just adjust your cooking techniques and buy an ordinary frying pan without a nonstick surface? At least one of my stainless steel ones is well over 30 years old. It can be scoured and I can use metal implements in it.

I have a little cast iron pan for omelettes which is well seasoned (and, I must admit, no-one else is allowed to use) and never sticks.

This is good and only £15 worth trying. Had it over a year and no scratches, I also have one of their saucepans which are good

I have Scoville Neverstick frying and saucepans. Had them a few years, bought in Asda, looking as good as new. I usually give a squirt of spray oil when frying, then the food slides out.
The surface has a speckled look, so not the usual Teflon finish.

After years of peeling Teflon, I have discovered ceramic non-stick coated frying pans. They're seemingly indestructible, so long as you don't use metal forks or spatulas in them and "proof" them occasionally. I have two frying pans, a wok and a crêpe pan which variously came from Pro-Cook in England and Cora in France.
On the other hand, my partner dislikes non-stick and has several heavy-bottomed stainless steel frying pans which I have found surprisingly easy to use and clean and am getting to like a lot. If anything gets burned on, it can be soaked in warm water and washing up liquid overnight then easily washed in the morning by hand or in the dishwasher.

I was q bit cross, because my frying pan got spoiled in the dishwasher, then I realised the pan was over 35 years old.

It was a Tefal one.

Witzend Fri 08-Nov-24 17:41:07

TBH I’ve given up buying expensive ones - the non-stick never lasts, not in this house, anyway.
I find that the cheap ones are just as good. Best was a very cheap one from Asda!

MissAdventure Fri 08-Nov-24 17:45:05

I bought a set of expensive (for me) stainless steel ones, but I can't get on with them.

Everything sticks.

Allira Fri 08-Nov-24 17:54:17

The best frying pan I had was a heavy aluminium one which in the end I kept just for pancakes as they never stuck in it.
One year I looked for it but DH had thrown it out because there was a scare about aluminium pans.

I've got a small non-stick saucepan (M&S), the inside is still perfectly fine but the outside is wrecked.

Stainless steel pans need seasoning first.

The last one I bought was from Aldi, it isn't the black non stick type coating but like a speckled grey colour, I think it is called stone coated, I must say I have had at least 5 years and it is still non stick . I also have a small pan in the same coating.

MissAdventure Fri 08-Nov-24 18:08:10

What a palava! angry

BlueBelle Fri 08-Nov-24 18:22:05

Mine came from the charity shop and I’ve had it years 🤣

MissAdventure Fri 08-Nov-24 18:23:55

That's often the best idea, because someone else has seasoned it for you.

My last saucepan set came from a charity shop.
