Firstly, for New Year´s Eve, we all follow our French tradition of Fondue:

Our fondue triologie:

Our starter is Gruyère & Kirch Clear Cherry Brandy ..

Then we do filet mignon Fondue ..

Thirdly, a chocolate fondue with winter fruits or sponge.

On the 1st we usually prepare either leg of lamb or Cochinillo ( Suckling Piglet), a Spanish treasure ..

We have both in the freezer and have not decided yet .. However, always divinely deliciously ..

Served with tapas to start; assorted canapes, caviar, Iberian Ham from Dehuesa, Extremadura with Persian Melon ..

Desserts: To be chosen ..

We love Tiramisù or a Cheesecake homemade and also a Cheese and Fruit Platter ..

Growing up, we always had roast pork on NY'sD. My mother served it with apple sauce and boiled onions. I can still smell the kitchen 😃.
This New Year we won't be having anything special on NYE, but I have a chuckling (duck stuffed with chicken breast and thigh and Cumberland trucklemeat).
Our son is coming to dine with us, his partner is working so we'll send him home with a doggy bag.

My dh took the cook from frozen lamb shanks for NYE out of the freezer yesterday so we will have them tonight with red cabbage. As for NYE we will be home alone so it will be whatever is in the fridge. Maybe egg snd chips, who knows.

Christmas left overs.

Roddi3363 Mon 30-Dec-24 11:32:12

Slow cooked venison on NYE with the trimmings, buffet lunch at a neighbour's home NYD.

Missiseff Mon 30-Dec-24 11:39:43

Tuesday is usually veggie pasta day, Wednesday fish, or the other way round

GrammaH Mon 30-Dec-24 12:25:46

Probably biscuits & cheese tomorrow evening as we're out to lunch & won't need much. I've seen a chicken recipe I fancy doing on NYD, an easy one pot thing, no faffing required!!

Steak pie, lots of veg, mash and after reading this thread, I’ll do roasties as well.
I’m making home made chicken nuggets for the youngsters and they can help themselves (or not) to veggies
Pannetoni as posh bread n butter pudding and the untouched Christmas pud
All calorie free

Oh nye - salmon main with starter and desert arriving with the friends who will be here early nye then off for an early night

Cateq Mon 30-Dec-24 13:52:22

We’ll have fish on nye and on NYD, it’ll be homemade steak pie with seasonal vegetables. Dessert will be something simple. I’ve given up trying to recreate my aunties trifle. She was a trifle maker in the City Bakeries factory and her trifles were legendary.

NYE Chinese Takeaway…
New Years Day probably gammon joint or belly pork 😊

Etoile2701 Mon 30-Dec-24 15:23:40

Oh my goodness! Nothing special planned for us.

ReadyMeals Mon 30-Dec-24 17:04:25

We have ready meals. I think we always have ready meals.

CanadianGran Mon 30-Dec-24 17:42:07

Nothing special planned for us. For years, our MIL used to order a large Chinese takeout for the whole family on NYD, and we carried on when she couldn't host, but then Covid came along and MIL is no longer with us, so the tradition kind of faded away.

But I like the idea of take out, and haven't had Chinese food for ages, so maybe...

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Dec-24 17:57:40

I remember the whole family went to a Chinese restaurant for NYE at the millennium. Then went onto the streets to celebrate and watch the fireworks. How things have changed since then!

Cannot recall ever having anything special to eat on either day.

Same here.

I could fancy a Chinese takeaway, but I don’t want to go and fetch it, and the quantity I want is not enough for free delivery, so that’s not happening.
I have a freezer full, so it will be whatever I fancy each day this week. Most of it is in one portion packs, to be cooked, ( fish, chicken, sausages) but I have four ready to reheat and eat, two bought, three home made.

I’ve enjoyed putting our steak (shin beef) n ale pie together. It’s in two casserole dishes to ensure the pastry is shared well. It’s cooking very long and very slow. Then into the fridge it goes till nye when my children and grandchildren arrive. I’m doing home made chicken nuggets for the 4 youngsters - I wish I was French and expecting them to eat the pie but I’m not. They all love my ‘chicken nuggets’ and it’s the last festive meal so I want them to enjoy it.

harrigran Mon 30-Dec-24 19:54:08

Haven't decided yet but some of it will be vegetarian.
Will chill a bottle of decent wine and a bottle of Champagne to go with it.

Tomorrow, turkey stuffing and cranberry sandwiches on crusty white bread with chips. There's plenty of mince pies, cake and chocolate or cheese for afters. New Year's Day we are going to a Lebanese restaurant for lunch with more cheese and picky bits for the evening.

I think I'll have a look too...

Lilyflower Mon 30-Dec-24 22:30:05

Wow, Frenchgalinspain, I wish I were at your house! That sounds amazing.

We will have venison casserole, followed by crème brûlée. We will have the nice bottle of Champagne he was given for his birthday and he will also have some birthday present red wine with the venison. We might force down some lovely chocolates as we bought the Hotel Chocolat Christmas box half price in the sale.

dragonfly46 Mon 30-Dec-24 22:30:08

Cheese fondue with salads on New Years Eve.
Steak and dauphine potatoes with veg on New Years Day.

I'm off to see what M&S have tomorrow too. Maybe a small gammon joint and possibly a trifle for Mr CJ.
