What are your dinner dishes for New Year´s Eve & New Year´s Day ?

Firstly, for New Year´s Eve, we all follow our French tradition of Fondue:

Our fondue triologie:

Our starter is Gruyère & Kirch Clear Cherry Brandy ..

Then we do filet mignon Fondue ..

Thirdly, a chocolate fondue with winter fruits or sponge.

On the 1st we usually prepare either leg of lamb or Cochinillo ( Suckling Piglet), a Spanish treasure ..

We have both in the freezer and have not decided yet .. However, always divinely deliciously ..

Served with tapas to start; assorted canapes, caviar, Iberian Ham from Dehuesa, Extremadura with Persian Melon ..

Desserts: To be chosen ..

We love Tiramisù or a Cheesecake homemade and also a Cheese and Fruit Platter ..

Pub lunch on NYE for season's birthday then nibbles in evening - continental meats/ cheeses/ M&S bits left over from Christmas. NY Day will be a roast with a rib of beef. Rest of week will be freezer led.

Gosh. Well , I shall probably continue to eat any leftovers, or might splash out and have egg and chips. Even a sausage maybe.

Since our friends can't share Burns Night with us due to an upcoming operation, we are giving them a Burns Night meal tonight. Soup, haggis neeps and tatties, then cranachan to follow. Last minute decision so fingers crossed all arrives in time, haggis due between 2.00 and 5.00 pm!

Well I went for the M&S dine in special: chicken, ham and leek pie with fancy green veg then chocolate fondant puddings. Will probably save the pie and greens but will have the puddings tonight after chicken chow mein. All 'reduced'. Lovely.
Lunch out tomorrow.

Fish and chips for us, via our fab local chippy. Mushy peas included.
Happy New Year all.

We were going to get a take away but have some chili I made when guests were here the other day so we finished it off with tortillas, then had tiramisu.
We don't really 'do' NY.

We have two GC here as DD is out

One is currently dining on ribs and chips, the other fish fingers and chips. They both had a starter of halloumi fries

DH and I have chicken kiev, jacket potatoes and green beans, haven’t decided on a starter but we have lots of choice.

Accompanied by a nice Chablis and a half bottle of champagne to toast the outgoing and incoming years 🥂🍾

A jacket potato is my idea of heaven 😘

Crispy skin, and fluffy, buttery inside. smile

The meat for the traditional steak pie is still languishing in the freezer. DH had Noroviruus and kindly passed it on to me. I haven't eaten for five days and the thought of steak pie makes me ill!
He will have to make his own New Year's dinner! I am not in the least bit envious of your meals.🤣

Crackers and cheese and a glass of red.
First NYE on my own ever at 87.

Casdon Tue 31-Dec-24 20:05:50

A prawn bhuna tonight, it was delicious. Tomorrow is gruel and guilt for the New Year because I’ve eaten and drunk far too much in the last 10 days, and I need to get back on the wagon.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 31-Dec-24 20:20:48

Me too Casdon!

Eating out tomorrow - a pub dinner with my stepfather then from 2nd I’ll do DRY January.
And if it’s going well, February too.

Grandmadinosaur Tue 31-Dec-24 20:40:31

Tonight we’ve had red prawns in garlic butter. A yellow sticker bargain from Waitrose. Had it with new potatoes and stuffed mushrooms.

Tomorrow we have family coming over for a hot buffet lunch. Some of the men are going to football with a teatime kick off hence the earlier eating.

We’ve just opened some bubbly so cheers everyone and a Happy New Year to you all. 🥂🎉

Harris27 Tue 31-Dec-24 20:44:30

We’re having cold cooked ham with chips and pickles. It’s hubbys choice before he goes to the match.

Patsy70 Tue 31-Dec-24 21:39:48

Chicken & chorizo stew with rice, followed by cheese & biscuits, chocolates and a glass or 3 of wine.

RosiesMaw2 Tue 31-Dec-24 22:05:06

The assumption being that we party animals are all hosting or partying ?
Many of us have a hot date with the sofa/the cat/the dog/the tv/an early night.

rubysong Tue 31-Dec-24 22:37:07

I had got a chunk of beef and some fancy puds for DH and I to have tomorrow. Then DS2's plans changed and they are coming here tomorrow so we've had the beef and puds tonight and I've got various veggie things for tomorrow as there would be no point offering them the beef. It will be a buffet and a trifle.

Babs03 Tue 31-Dec-24 22:39:10

Well I’m in bed already, no partying here,
but am not complaining.
Happy new year all 🥳🥳⭐️

Claretjan Tue 31-Dec-24 23:05:11

Got a gammon joint and braised red gammon from our small M & S. Will add my frozen roasties, and other veg if i can be bothered. Tiramisu for dessert. Probably a glass or 2 of prosecco too!
I am tucked up in bed too Babs03.
Just heard first fireworks going off - a bit early!
