Good morning,

Does anyone have a recipe, please, for Corned Beef Hash

Thank you 😊

Judy54 Mon 29-Sept-25 17:01:04

Yes the one we have used for years is:

A tin of corned beef
part boiled potatoes
fresh tomatoes
a green pepper
one chilli
onion
garlic

If you try it hope you like it as much as we do.

What’s your method of cooking Judy? Are all the veg part boiled?

hulahoop Mon 29-Sept-25 17:15:31

My corner beef and is sliced fried onion sliced par boiled potatoes and sliced corned beef layered in casserole dish with gravy and cooked in oven.
season with salt and pepper to your liking and serve with veg.

Judy54 Mon 29-Sept-25 17:17:22

No Oreo all the veg are not part boiled. I normally use a skillet. Firstly fry the onion and garlic, add the chopped green pepper, the chopped fresh tomatoes. the chilli, the potatoes and finally the corned beef cut into chunk sized pieces. If you add the corned beef to early it will break up and go mushy. Enjoy!

ThanksđŸ‘đŸ» don’t you need to add gravy?

Iam64 Mon 29-Sept-25 17:24:39

I use a similar approach to Judy but add some beef stock . I’m a northerner we like gravy

Oreo Mon 29-Sept-25 17:27:51

We Londoners like gravy too😁
I shall try it both ways and see what we like best. Thanks Judy

Ooh, thanks for reminding me of this, I haven’t made it for ages, and dh loves it.

I just boil some potatoes, let them cool and cube them. Fry them with plenty of chopped onion in just a very little oil. Add the cubed corned beef to heat through, plus when nearly all ready, stir in plenty of just-cooked green cabbage, chopped up. S&P to taste.

I make a very similar thing with the remains of a piece of gammon, cubed.

I still use my mum's recipe! Chopped corned beef, carrot, onion and potato, cooked in pan on stove with Oxo beef stock. Very old fashioned! She sometimes put dumplings on the top.

kittylester Mon 29-Sept-25 18:39:39

I can't stand corned beef hash so, every now and then, dh makes his mum's recipe.

Fry diced onion and green pepper add parboiled diced potatoes fry together. Add diced, tinned corned beef and fry together. Top with fried eggs. Maybe serve with baked beans.

No gravy involved at all.

This is the method I always use, though sometimes another type of stock cube. No one else mentioned carrots, it's got to have carrots!

I add a small tin of whole baby carrots, a tin of chopped tomatoes and plenty of Worcestershire sauce. 2 oxo cubes or Knorr stock and only a cup of water as the tomatoes make a rich gravy.

And just before serving I throw in a good handful of frozen peas. 1 of your 5 a day plus adds a bit of colour.

This is like the recipe used at Sam’s Chophouse, a rather special bar in Manc city centre.

Omg, no gravy, no liquid, it’s not supposed to be wet! And no vegetables, it’s not supposed to be healthy!
Just cubed potatoes, cubed corned beef, fry together until potatoes are getting crunchy.

Mashed potato, onion, corned beef.
Mash together make in to large patties, toss in bread crumbs and fry each side.
Serve with a fried egg.
Yum

Same as Laura except that I cook it in the oven like shepherd’s pie.

MiniMoon Mon 29-Sept-25 23:01:01

My mother made corned beef hash as follows. Boil potatoes ams mash them with a bit of butter, cut corned beef into cubes and stir into the mashed potatoes. She sometimes boiled carrots with the potatoes and mashed them together. Served with cabbage. I don't remember having gravy with it.
I don't make it as DH isn't keen.

Similar to yours Witzend, except that I throw in frozen peas, not cabbage.
Easy!

Par boiled potatoes cut into pieces.
I large brown onion cut into pieces not to small. Fry together until browned and cooked through. Cube corned beef from the fridge so it holds together a bit.
Finally stir in or serve with baked beans.

Years ago when my children were small, I often made (New England) Red flannel hash.
It was from Carriers kitchen recipe magazine .
One of the ingredients is Beetroot.
I remember it was very tasty meal.
I've just done quick Google and the recipe and similar are on there .

Thanks OP , I will now make have a walk down memory lane and add some beetroot and corn beef to my shopping list.

Hi, all,

I have an alternate recipe if anyone is interested. Cooked mashed Potatoes, a tin of Plum Tomatoes, a Tin of Corned Beef and one oxo cube. Cheese for topping if desired. Cooked/reheated in a Microwave.

In a Pyrex Dish add the sliced Corned Beef and mash with a fork to make level in the dish. Add the crumbled oxo. Add the Plum tomatoes, slicing through them and arrange around dish, add a small amount of tomato liquid.
Put lid on and heat in microwave for 3 minutes. Add Mashed potato and Cheese if using. Reheat for 2 minutes.
Delicious alone - or put vegetables on to cook before making the Hash!
Enjoy!

My mother made this often.
1 tin of corned beef
1 large onion and about six medium potatoes.
Fry onions until brown. But in large bowl. Boil potatoes until soft, drain and add to onions.
Open tin of corned beef
Mash all together, then fry until brown.
Eat with peas and tomato sauce ( 1950)

kittylester Tue 30-Sept-25 15:14:14

I forgot the Worcester Sauce - dh definitely wouldn't.
