Tesco food delivery dwindling

Firstly complain, WhatsApp is a good start.
Try another supermarket? Sainsbury’s, Asda, Iceland (only £40 spend needed).

The only response to a complaint is "I'll draw the manager's attention to this".

It is getting so bad that we go to Lidl once a month to buy the bits Tesco no longer deliver. I hate shopping.

Try Sainsbury's. I rarely have a problem getting what I want.

Every now and then I have a Tesco delivery as they do a couple of things I can't get on my Sainsbury's order. But I agree - I did a Tesco shop this week and there seemed to be an awful lot that was either unavailable or had disappeared completely. Tesco also send a lot of short shelf life goods. There's only me and I had a lot of fruit with just one day shelf life, plus a small quiche and some green beans.

Sainsbury's is marginally better and a £40 minimum spend. I used to sometimes get a Morrsions delivery as they have a £25 minimum but they've now added a hefty delivery supplement for orders under £40 so I've ditched them.

Tesco is naughty with £50 spend if you don’t want much. I just did sains at £40 as all I wanted was 3 bags cat litter, 2 big boxes cat food and milk.

We pay £40 a year to Sainsbury's for a midweek pass. £40 minimum spend. That's less than 80p a week. If you don't spend more than £40 a week could you shop online every other week? Sign up for a nectar card and get lots of savings targeted directly at you, This week I saved £1.50 on two bags of dog food, £14 on a leg of lamb plus many other items on my order. Definitely worth having.

We pay £40 midweek delivery with Morrisons and it has a £25 minimum spend. My only complaint is the short life of some items.

I recommend Sainsbury’s deliveries. I usually get everything I need and I buy a lot of their own brand products.

I wondered afterwards what he would have done if I had a white cane!

I rarely have a problem reaching the £40, but if I do, I usually order more long-life milk or, like today, a bottle of wine.

I mainly use Morrison's, and because I only use M&S coffee, I have a few deliveries from there each year. My six jars of coffee cost £42!

If you put in the delivery instructions "vulnerable, partially sighted customer" the driver will take your shopping into the kitchen and help unpack it.

We have Morrisons deliveries. Used to be perfect as they came from a depot. Recently the system has moved to picking in the local store. This change has brought weekly out stock items with frankly odd substitutions or newly unavailable items. Unavailability seems to mean the depot stocks the item but the store doesnt. On the positive side the drivers are all cheerful and willingly carry the crates into the kitchen for us. Some even help unpack them onto the worktop. Worth the odd hassle not to carry heavy shopping. We can’t park adjacent to our front door and both have physical limitations.

If w get such a short shelf life date we phone up and tell them and they refund the cost.

I meant to add that Morrisons are absolutely brilliant regarding refunds for damaged items, items with too short a life or incorrect items.

Funnily enough, just before I saw this I had written to Tesco to complain about the number of items missing from my deliveries. When I try to order online, a few of the items I would like are unavailable or discontinued. As I don’t like substitutions, (I won’t even try to tell you how it went when I did have them), I quite often find that several items are missing when my order comes.
Tesco really do not care. If you complain, they are very sympathetic on the phone, and promise to ‘look into it’, but nothing changes. That’s why I’m writing today to see if a letter produces better results than a phone call.
I am so sick of them. I would change to somewhere else but suspect they would be as bad. Also there are a few items I like at Tesco that are their own brand.
I must say, the delivery people are lovely though.

I too have mobility problems. I have a collapsable table which I unfold at the door while I sit the other side. I give the driver a bag to pack up one tray and I pack the other still sitting down. Anything that wont fit in two bags goes on the shelf under the table. When the driver has gone I sit at the table to unpack the bags and sort the shopping into the various categories. I have to sit down to put items into the fridge.

I always find the Tesco drivers cheerful and helpful. I do have a note on my account that I am mobility impaired.

Any odd bits that are not available I sent a relative some omoney to pick up at the huge Asda he passes en route to my house. I cant remember the last time I visited a supermarket I would not be able to cope with it. I loathe food shopping and putting it away is a chore.

My mother-in-law makes Morrisons orders which she phones in.
It's a special line which was set up for older and less able people.

They didn't have a minimum order in the past but I'm not 100% sure if this is still the case.
The delivery charges were £3 (which admittedly is a lot on a small order) but they come the following day.

The staff on the phone are terrific and very patient.
I will try to remember to ask my mother-in-law for the phone number when I see her next.
The shopping comes in (charged) bags but they refund them next time when you give them back.

Morrisons do add a delivery charge ( £3.00) but only if you don't have a delivery pass with them.
I use Tesco mainly, but did pay the extra £40 for a Morrisons annual midweek pass as well.
That might sound extravagant but it not only widens the choice of what to buy but also of what to pay, by cross-checking prices.
I really like two different cod fish purchases which Tesco stopped doing - but Morrisons sell - that's what motivated me.
Then if there is something I buy regularly I might stock up with whoever has a good deal on it.
I'm sure it more than pays for itself this way, for me anyway.

@Charleygirl5, That is so hurtful and uncalled for what that delivery man did, standing watching you with his arms folded. I experienced something similar once with an Asda man , and I think we just have to accept that we share this world with all sorts of people and be thankful for the nice ones.
It is horrible though. You don't forget, do you?

Oh bless you, I’m exactly the same. £4.99 a month is still cheaper than getting a taxi both ways or begging the neighbours.

I’ve noticed the same with their own-brand bleach and bio liquid disappearing. Sometimes I’ve switched to Amazon Pantry for the heavy stuff.

Don’t give up the slot yet, it’s a lifeline when the hips and knees are playing up.

friendlygingercat My deliveries come from a Tesco Extra, and don't often have things missing or substituted. Their stock level is better then the smaller shops The drivers bring in the trays to my kitchen, put them up on a chair (my suggestion - why damage their backs bending up and down) and unload onto the worktop. They would even put them into the fridge, freezer or cupboard if I asked them to. If I don't like what has been substituted, or for any other reason, I get a refund. They take it back or sometimes tell me to keep it, as anything perishable will just be thrown out.

After one delivery, I received an email from Tesco apologising for me having to refuse a damaged item (pack of 4 custard tarts) and refunding the cost, which was only a pound or so. I hadn't refused it - it was sitting in the fridge, so I looked at it and tried it - perfect, and very nice. The driver had an assistant with him learning the job, and I think he must have been showing him how to do the paperwork on a refusal and pressed a button too soon.

Ocado - huge range and some excellent offers

I have used Tesco for years and pay the delivery plan but Iam seriously looking at changing shops. only two of us and now they have taken small packs of things or tesco own brands off the listings to force you to buy bigger or branded packs. worth a look at

Ocado is by far the best - I practically weep because they do not deliver to my new postcode! Waitrose is second best and has masses of things that Tesco does not stock. In the two years that I have been receiving home deliveries, only once have I had the folded arms attitude. That was from Tesco - who are now giving their delivery drivers body cams because of abuse from shoppers. What a foul world we now live in!

We had Tesco home delivery for many years, but when they put up their free delivery minimum order to £50 (on top of the £7.99 we were paying each month for delivery saver!) we switched to Sainsbury's & have found them so much better - from quality of veg to range of goods to helpfulness of delivery drivers. There are a couple of things we can't get from Sainsbury's/prefer the Tesco version, so every other month we do a click & collect to coincide with my regular hospital visits; did one just this morning, & when I went to order I was amazed at the number of items that have vanished off my 'favourites' list as they no longer sell them.
